We’ve had fair catch safety kickoff returns 2 weeks in a row. A safety is kicked from the 20 - so we are penalizing ourselves 15 yards with a fair catch. This makes no sense. Either it is stupid coaching or stupid execution. No defenders were within 15 yards. We do the same thing on punt returns - automatic fair catch even when no one is within 10 yards. Lazard did the same thing last year.

Guess I’m wrong. You can onside a free kick after safety. It rarely ever happens, but it technically can be done. Learn something new.

Good on you for admitting being mistaken there. I was pretty sure the same 10 yard free zone was in effect for a free kick after a safety the way it is for regular free kicks. I didn't agree with the call to fair catch it today, but it worked out, so I'll keep defaulting to trusting the process.

I'm REALLY EASY. Post the link to a single time Iowa State has lost a conference game while getting called for the nose tackle called for holding on a rushing play and I'll leave forever. REALLY SIMPLE.
While we dig through our defensive holding database ...

I won't say we've NEVER won a conference game when our QB has thrown 3 picks, but I'm sure it's a historical rarity. Maybe there's some causality to look into there.

I honestly didn’t think we’d be ranked in next weeks AP Poll even after the win today, but there are a ton of top 25 teams that have lost already or are currently losing. We just might be ranked. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Might be the highest ranked three loss team but not in the 25.

No worries, I put Abigail Sciuto on it. She's running a search right now.
Once she finds something, I'll issue the Insta-magic "zoom" and "enhance" commands and all will be clear.
We need one of those computers like on the old Star Trek: "Computer. Tell us all the times that Iowa State has won a conference football game after suffering the inhumanity of a defensive holding call on a running play. And, Computer, while you're at it, please list all the conference games that Texas Tech has won while giving up 3 interceptions and a safety on the road. Thanks, C."

When he was introduced with Majors and Mac it seemed like he was afraid of the reception he would receive. Glad he got a solid one. The Walden years were right about the time I can remember Cyclone football. He inherited a crappy program and while the records didn't reflect alot of success I always remembered games that at times were highly entertaining even in the rough times. My one major beef will always be why he refused to play Troy as a freshman.

I think most coaches here would get a positive reception. People may be angry about performance in the immediate moment, but after that has settled i think most ISU fans understand the difficulties that have been faced and as long as they were generally good people while here and gave it their all, they'll always be welcome back as cyclones.

Only coach i can never imagine coming back is Chizik.

Can we take up a collection for the defensive holding victims of TTU? Such atrocities should never go unnoticed.

Also, their O line is pretty good, and we didn’t bring a lot of guys often. I think Heacock liked their chances in making their freshman throw into coverage all day (3 INT’s proves him right).
In general it is hard to pressure TT because they only keep the ball in yhe QBs hands for a couple of seconds. Mosy all the routes were 0-7 yards. Hard to pressure that

I haven't read through the game thread yet, but that was something we noticed at the game. Also, that he seemed scared to death to take a hit.

Although I fear for Purdy's safety at times, he is rock-solid out there.

Wait, you think the Big 12 tried to give TT the win???? Seriously?

Hello my fellow big 12 bro

It appears you had an issue with a lack of a penalty against Hakeem Butlers and his TD catch late in the 4th quarter.

I just rewatched the replay and I will admit that Butler does push the defender back with one hand to make room for the catch. I will also say that the defender does appear to pulling on Butlers arms just prior to that. I’ll admit there is pushing and pulling just like the ESPN announcer said, but if anything they both deserved penalties if we go that route.

Well, this was just his second game coming back from a collapsed lung. I can’t really blame him for being a little gun shy there.
