I pointed out earlier that Leia was raised by an adopted family with a fake name. Luke was raised by his known relatives, with his full Luke Skywalker son of Darth Vader name, next to the last living Jedi Knight, next to Jabba the Hutt on the bounty hunter center of the galaxy. Nobody has a problem enjoying Luke Tattooine scenes.

Lifelong Star Wars fan, collector, toy designer as a career now, the whole nine yards...but some of these fans are doing their best to ruin the fact that after 3 decades of waiting we finally have a few new good (not perfect) Star Wars movies.
It's not good to them. They are not "trying to ruin" anything. The numbers show this with the fact people are not going back to watch it again at nearly the numbers of the previous movies. I thought it was amusing and fairly entertaining but as a transcendent movie that captures intrigue, respects characters, introduces interesting new characters, creates compelling storylines it simply doesn't stack up which why I wont see it again. I'll go to the next one with hope they make a better movie but my intrigue for StarWars took a huge hit. I have seen every other movie multiple times, even the prequels and had plenty of issues with them too. I remember having hope towards the end that Luke staying on the island, the payoff for him down the line could be worth the issues I had with the movie so far. Then... the force projection and he turns into the force because he was tired....
The Skywalker name I agree, it was clearly put there like that because the story was just being told for the first time and wanted the audience to follow along. In this age, that probably would not have been done (I would like to think). And to play devil's advocate, almost 0 people knew Vader was Anakin Skywalker so who would report what to anyone? Vader only found out about Luke by sensing the force and hired Boba Fett to investigate Luke after A New Hope.

Maybe Skywalker is a common name Tattooine like Smith or Jones is in the US

I've seen this explained partially as the fact that generally when christmas is placed the way it was this year, that doesn't help its weekend numbers. But overall its second week did completely fine.

But also look at that list. Almost all the 'biggest drops' are movies that had huge opening weekends. A lot of the viewing gets front-loaded because no one wants to have the movie spoiled.

As far as specific counts on multiple viewings, which this does not provide, if we were to try to compare to earlier star wars films that's probably impossible. Repeat viewership of films is down in general due to the short window we have nowadays between theatrical release and streaming\blu ray release. Used to be if you wanted to see it again it was see it again in theaters or wait years. Now its just a couple months away.

Yep, you are correct. Finally got around to binge watching Clone Wars on Netflix and Darth Maul is back...1/2 the man he was before but back. I stand corrected.

You should also binge Star Wars Rebels, as Maul's story continues in that series.

Furthermore I don't think you can compare this move to TFA. TFA was the first Star Wars movie in a while. We're going to be getting them yearly for a long time. Weren't thrilled with this one? Well you got Han Solo in 5 months.

Late the party here but I finally saw this movie and didn't like it nearly as much as TFA or especially Rogue One.

EMO Luke was terrible and Mark Hamil's acting was pretty bad IMO.

The Leia flying in space scene was terrible. She should have died in that scene, IMO it would have been a fitting way for her to go.

Anyone know where you can binge Star Wars Rebels? Not finding it on Netflix.

Series isn't over yet. I'm guessing you won't see it on any streaming services until then. Last season wraps up this spring, and if it makes it to netflix you should jump on it because I'm guessing it's going to be on Disney's new streaming service when that launches.

The scene where Leia flew through space (you know, where they were able to open an airlock to get her without getting sucked out into the vacuum of space themselves) .

For those that insist our laws of science and fiction be applied to syfy movies. Watched it a second time and it does appear that Leia entered some type of inner airlock room on the perimeter of the bridge. They just don't show the door closing behind her...but you can see it's some type of airlock. So, one plothole closed.

That said. I didn't like that scene and it would have been easier to just have her die during that scene.

FYI, There was a story in 2017 that Disney is considering a break with Star Wars for a few years after Episode IX in 2019. There is still a chance they release a third Anthology film in 2020, but nothing has been officially announced yet. They are likely waiting to see how Solo does. They are concerned with over-saturation. They may focus on TV for a few years. Of course, there is the rumored Rian trilogy being in the works too. If they are full speed ahead with that, then they'd be ready for that come 2021.

This article does a great job squashing the narrative haters are trying to push with box office numbers.

It's late to chime in but wth. You got questions? I got opinions!

Thought it was overall just OK. Had a few moments I really liked (sat up in my seat for the Snoke throne room scene) but a bunch I didn't care for at all.

Liked
Kylo & Rey
Finn sometimes
Luke brushing off his shoulder
"Yeah, they hate that ship!" - this is the right note for SW humor, right up there with "The garbage will do" and "We're all fine here now, how are you?"

Hated
Everything with Poe - why is that character even in these stories, keep waiting for him to get blown up
Finn & Rose's Meaningless Adventure to Preachy Casino Planet Giant Dog Races - totally pointless, and what a waste of BdT
Fairly pointless end battle - 20 rebels in a cave? That's it? Dude, just leave 100 mall cops and a sniffer dog to guard them, they will surrender when the wifi gives out
Chewbacca BBQed one of the cute little birds! OMG! Yeah he didn't eat it, but he caught, killed, cleaned, and cooked it. The more I think about it the darker it gets.
Phasma - why, just why, what is the point of her? Other than to set up a cartoon series and lunchbox sales I am sure.
The whole main plot of "we're running out of gas". Really, that's how we are building drama? Looking for a Kum & Go in the Outer Rim? It's right up there with "hey we got us a trade dispute, lets send in some Jedi".

I know the movies have always had stuff in them that were annoying and pointless (e.g. Ewoks). But they seem to be adding more and more. Just taking out the Casino planet subplot would have made this movie 20 minutes shorter and 3 times better.

Meanwhile I am waiting for my EE son to invent me a working lightsaber....

Saw it for the second time tonight with the whole family. First time was with only my 11 year old son (he LOVED it the first time) Our whole family like it!

My 9 year old daughter said it was her favorite of all Star Wars movies because of Rey. My 11 year old liked it better the second time. He said his mind was whirling with possibilities for the next movie. The movie was getting a bit too long for my 6 year old though. He was getting restless after about 2 hours.

Glad I saw it again, I took the movie for what it was giving us, Star Wars for the current generation. All 8 films of the saga have flaws, we enjoyed the originals anyway. The current trilogy will be built up by this generation and they will DESTROY the new trilogy when it comes out in 20 years because it is so poorly written, acted and has tons of holes compared to episodes 7, 8 and 9.

Just to be clear I didn't mean people are "ruining" anything for me. Someone flipping out about gravity in TLJ but not caring about it in Empire ruins nothing for me. I do think they're ruining it for themselves when they nitpick identical things that they don't nitpick in the original movies. The trolls who have been on the march since Force Awakens because "too many women/non-white people" are a completely separate but significant story, RT user votes are only about 150k votes and there's little doubt that movement is well represented in that sort of thing.

My theory is the only way someone could have a higher opinion of the prequels than TFA/R1/TLJ is if they were age 3-12 when they watched the prequels. The acting in the prequels is dramatically worse, the scripts are worse, the dialogue is much worse, the effects are much worse. They are objectively worse unless someone has that magic nostalgia age range for what happens to otherwise clearly be the 3 worst of the 9 movies. Like someone else said the animated Clone Wars tells better stories with better writing and even acting using the same characters.

100% The writing in the Clone Wars is fantastic.
