I want to say they don't count certain things prior to either 1985 or 1980, or whenever it was the tournament started getting officially "seeded".

Baylor's got a good road to the Final 4 now. I think Wisconsin beats them in the Elite 8 though.

I think West Virginia will be in the final four.

because those sweet 16's were in the 70s way before there was even just 64 teams in the tournament. They only had to win one game back then to be in the sweet 16. I think the announcers mean modern day sweet sixteens.

It's kind of like how nobody talks about how ISU has a Final Four appearance. It happened back when ISU only had to win one game to get there.
