Never said the games were unwinnable. Just pointing out that the talent level only goes up from here so, no, there is not a lot of time to make major adjustments. I would think last year proved that all of our games are winnable and I wouldn't have to make that obvious in posts.
Some other thoughts
- Not sure that playing the first game would have made a difference in this game. Our execution may have been better at times (especially the punting!), but it wouldn't have changed the fact that our OL got completely manhandled by Iowa's DL. While the OL should improve throughout the season, today showed that they have a looooooong way to go before they are a championship level OL.
- Why the change at Center, moving JGJ back to Center and Foster to LT? JGJ look lost on several plays today, which perhaps should be expected since he's been playing LT most of camp. What happened to Newell?
- At times, it felt like I was watching the ISU offense of 2014 out there, but instead of Sam Richardson getting clobbered, it was Kyle Kempt.
- Saw some bad body language from several players in the 4th quarter.
- Iowa may have the best DL we'll face this year, with the possible exception of TCU, and our OL weaknesses were thoroughly exposed. Thankfully, OU's defensive line is not as good. They let UCLA kinda' hang around longer than they should have today. So, there is an opportunity for the staff to take the painful lessons from today and improve to the point where we might be able to sustain multiple drives against OU's defense.
I see we're still refusing to acknowledge SDSU didn't want to stick around for a Sunday game.
Credit to both teams. I'm really trying to decifer it all, but it seemed like the botched punts took any kind of momentum out of our sails. Everything after that just snowballed. The D played their guts out and any question marks surrounding Mike Rose getting the start should be silenced. He was playing HS ball last year and he was all over the damn place today.
Really? BC IMO Iowa is about the 5th or 6th best overall team we will play this year, and they didn't even look good today. You can't say it's talent going up from here the whole way though.
Why would they want to since we agreed to give them money for a game they didn't even play. IMore important to pay SDSU than to refund our tickets or make them play to get paid.I see we're still refusing to acknowledge SDSU didn't want to stick around for a Sunday game.
the secondary is good because of players that aren't on the team anymore?I'm intrigued why so many of you keep saying Iowa has a bad secondary? Because of a bad performance last year vs the Clones?
Iowa in the last 2 years has had a Thorpe winner and an additional Finalist. Phil Parker has made a career out of churning out NFL players from the secondary. There is nothing more frustrating than a offense too afraid to make a mistake. It's a constant frustration as a Iowa fan. That Iowa D is good though. I don't think Campbell wanted any part of that Dline. 10 sacks in 2 games.
