They're more for the fans/alumni too.

It's probably more of a distraction for 1A teams in Iowa than college teams in November.

Well yeah in High School you are busy thinking about the homecoming dance and whether your are going to get some from your date Sally Rotten Crotch.

One of our high school coaches every year would say "It's Homecoming week and I know you are all thinking about what you are going to do with Sally Rotten Crotch after the dance but we have a football game to play."

Off the grid
A Homecoming football game at the college level is more of a "name" than anything else. Other than maybe a small pep rally on Friday evening there isn't anything extra that the players do that week.

Homecoming is more for the Greeks with the events they do, fans and alumni.

Yes, that was a well-designed play against man coverage, sweeping the inner slot receiver all the way to the sideline behind the two outside receivers screening him/blocking the defender trying to catch up. Very tough to defend that with an inside DB on the slot man who gets slowed in the wash of the other two receivers/DBs. Gotta credit Baylor for a perfect situational play call against man to man. It never would have gone for 70 yards vs zone, or even if ISU kept a safety over the top.
It was a very well run pick play.

He missed two TDs to Jackson. He had Jackson wide open in the end zone on that last red zone drive, but he never looked back to the middle of the field.
Dean was wide open on the last drive on 1st down by 5 yards. Locked in on one reciever.

Clearly ISU was their best win.
If they beat us now, I would agree with you. But we were not as good when we played them in September as we are now, and EIU is not nearly as good. There is no reason that Wisconsin cannot win out, Indiana, Nebraska, NW and Minnesota. very easy to see with that remaining schedule they end up 9-3.

If that. Iowa is struggling for air.

Think about this..... Without Contreraz, this game was 21-18. I hate that we don't score more TDs, but it is so, so nice to have a reliable kicking game. Really a big part of our improvement this year!
Overall, the kicking game has been very good except for the Ohio game where we missed a couple of makeable field goals. The kickoffs generally are going into the endzone, we have a very good punting game, and it's nice to see ISU not only trying but making kicks 50 yards and in.

Check out this stat. EIU plays six of them, maybe it's not an elite defense at all.

They could lose any game on the schedule with their current QB play.

Kirk has too much ego to put DeJean at QB in a wildcat. The fans are calling for it and he doesn’t make changes based on what fans want. And if he gets hurt or is limited on D and PR it really changes their identity.
The funniest part of the called back punt return against Minnesota was that up until the moment that it was called back, KF had a smug look on his face that said to me "see, my system works, you guys can suck it"

I saw many non penalty plays get reviewed and called back the other night in the WI/tOSU game.

There were boos but I didn't hear anyone really argue the call once they showed it again.

Not a fan of the CR Gazette, but I think I would give a pass to them on this.

The photo credit was from a Waco paper. More than likely the photographer ID the players in the photo.

The Gazette editors should have checked for accuracy for sure, however.
And it's Waco paper via The Assciayed Press , so AP apparently got it wrong to start, unless it got miscorrected somewhere else along the line. Potentially the error was overlooked by 3 organizations.

Yesterday in the Vikes Packers game Minnesota challenged a 10 yard pass completion because the receiver bobbled the ball going out of bounds. LOL the Vikes won the challenge but were assed a 5 yard penalty because it was discovered that MN had 12 men on the field. Don't tell Kirk....

We tend to struggle a lot coming off of bye weeks. We played a C+/B- game on the road and still won by 12 against a conference foe.

I'm still amazed at the turnaround by the o-line. Early on in the season, Ben Bruns commented on the Sunday podcast that he liked some of the things the line was trying to do. I thought he was crazy/full of B.S. but it turns out he was onto something. Clanton and the special teams coach have done wonders for this team.

They got blown up a few times but they were getting more position and push against Iowa than it seemed. Just wasn't consistent or sustained.
