I know people have mentioned the clock not running at the end of the game, but here’s a clip that really shows how the clock operator saved a second or two for the Hawkeyes at the end of the game.

Of course Porter is happy they did that. :)

At risk of sounding like the "grumpy nitpicking guy after a win"-- I hate squib kicks. I just don't understand the concept behind them. You still have their primary return guy fielding the ball, just 25 yards further up than he otherwise would have. With 6 seconds left on the clock, it allows them to get to midfield within that timeframe, whereas if you kick it deep and they return it to the 50 time will have expired. I also am not sure there is less risk in a squib kick return as opposed to having a touchback and starting at the 25 with 6 seconds to play.

Just seemed riskier than it needed to be but hey, what do I know.

Duh!
We finally win and a million less people tune in! What the hell america
I don't know how they record viewership these days but perhaps with our $#!+y start people decided to tune into the Notre Dame upset alert. Disappointing, regardless because there wasn't much competition outside of that game.

A million fewer viewers 'during' the game, but we can't ignore the new way of viewing. That is the ability to watch replays and clips. I'll wager that exposure is significantly higher than real-time and only increases with publicized interest. We can't trivialize that 54 yard field goal and the interest it has garnered since the game. The measure of media exposure will have to be measured differently going forward.

Our prior kickoff didn't reach the end zone, so maybe it was the wind, but I think they knew a touchback wasn't likely, so a short, high kick should be easier to cover. He just didn't kick it high enough. Plus we didn't cover well. A bad combination that could have cost us if they had a QB who can throw it 55 yards.

Completely agree but I am concerned that it hurts our chances of OTA coverage next year.

The problem with this is that in terms of value, all that other viewing is fairly worthless.

Advertisers care mostly about if their ads are being watched. That's why they love live sports- most people watch them live and the commercials can't be skipped. People watching it delayed (and skipping commercials) or catching clips (no commercials) are essentially worthless to them.

can you define the difference between the two ratings?

It has probably been said way too many times already, but putting up 20 points in the second half against that tough Iowa defense was impressive as hell.
Good offenses with good strategists/play callers (or hell, just a good game plan that day) generally do not struggle to score 20+ points against Iowa. Iowa plays very, very few of these types of teams (i.e. absolute cakewalk B1G schedule every year with historically awful QB play) which certainly props up their defensive scheme.

And yes this means that - in the Campbell era - because we rarely score 20+ points against them, that it means that the offensive game plans we've brought to the table haven't been good. Exception would be 2017 with Park - that was a great gameplan.
