Ward this year reminds me a bit of Jameel McKay his junior semester. Crazy athletic, long, shotblocker and dunker. Senior year McKay developed a serviceable back to the basket post game. Seeing Jones' progress from last year to now, I expect Ward has high potential to be an above average starting center for us next year. Then you're looking for a transfer backup post who can stay a couple years and bridge the gap between Jones/Ward and Rock

I thought Mckee was better his Junior year. I thought his senior year he lacked focus.

College of Charleston is not a HBCU. Quite the opposite actually.
Yeah I knew that didn't sound right about them being HBCU. From their Wikipedia page:

During the Antebellum era, further development efforts in the college resulted in the construction of Randolph Hall and the President's House, both of which were built using slave labor. In 1837, the Charleston municipal government assumed control over the college. During the mid-20th century, several African Americans attempted to apply to the racially segregated college as part of the Double V campaign against racism in the United States, but they were all rejected. Though the college became a private institution to avoid being racially integrated during the civil rights movement, Black students were eventually admitted starting in 1967 as a result of external pressure.[8][9]

I’m not sure if this is the right place but I was hoping to get some clarification on the transfer portal with two questions that I hope that someone on CF can answer.
If I am looking at the roster chart correctly and everyone that could come back to play in 2023 does return, ISU still has one scholarship for a transfer. Am I reading this right?
Are college’s allowed to contact a player at another school before the player has declared that they are entering the transfer portal?

Yes, one scholarship.

No. Coaches can't contact a player until he is in the transfer portal. However, it's assumed that coaches/boosters will use back channels, like high school/aau coaches, families, or handlers, to express interest in a player before he decides to enter the portal.

The kid from Wisconsin currently playing at Santa Clara looks to me like a good fit with the Cyclones. Maybe some CF members should start lobbying him on social media.

Only kidding a little….

That’s Brandon Podziemski and he barely played last year at Illinois. We actually looked at him when he transferred.

I’m in no way saying he’s not good but him going down a level in competition has inflated how good he actually is.

I really think our portal season is going to be a homerun just as our recent recruiting. Gotta get a starting center and likely a shooter that can play SF. Add those two and next season has unlimited potential.

Way up there
I wish Tj had some Summit league connection that could get the Nelson kid from NDSU to Ames. He will be able to punch his ticket anywhere he'd like.

In all Fairness Illinois had some experienced guards last year with Ayo and one other guy who's name is excaping me. He looks legit. Maybe just got stuck behind some players who had more experience.

I remember wanting to go after him when he hit the portal last year. Btw...has it been clarified whether players who transferred last year can do it again this next offseason without sitting out?
