I more than anything appreciate they stuck to the midwest for recruiting. They of course stuck their net out for a few good recruits across the nation but they went hardest after kids that werent very far away. It was super frustrating last year with the southern kids spurning us.

I agree. Hopefully they've seen the light and stick to this recruiting strategy. Maybe try to snag a top southern recruit if the opportunity comes up, otherwise stick to the Midwest.

THT just dropped his top 7. Assume we'll hear about official visit dates soon.

Rivals150 wing Talen Horton-Tucker is down to seven: Ohio State, Xavier, St Louis, Illinois, Georgetown, Georgia Tech & Iowa State

I broke down the remaining Scholarships and position numbers for the remaining schools:

Ohio State - 2 Open Scholarships, 6 SF on roster for 2018.
Georgetown - 4 Open Scholarships, 3 SF on roster for 2018.
Georgia Tech - 2 Open Scholarships, 3 (1 walk-on) SF on roster for 2018.
Xavier - 5 Open Scholarships, 3 SF on Roster plus 1 priority recruit with CBs for Xavier for 2018
Illinois - 3 Open Scholarships, 2 (1 walk-on) SF on roster for 2018, Landers Nolley is a higher priority and will be deciding on Oct. 7. Nolley to Ill. leaves us in much better shape for THT, IMO.
SLU - 1 Open Scholarships, 5 SF on roster for 2018.
ISU - 2 Open Scholarships, 2 SF on roster for 2018.

Xavier and Illinois appear to be our biggest Competition, but it will be interesting to see how many scholarships are still available at schools of interest by the time THT makes his decision.

To be a national program you have to recruit nationally. Last I checked we didn't pull Young, Georges or Wigginton out of Wisconsin.

I agree that we need to recruit nationally, but I also think it makes sense to place a good deal of focus on the upper midwest, as there are plenty of quality recruits there, and an inherent advantage to kids that don't want to play too far from home. I think we can do both.

Do we need to recruit nationally, as in a class of Plan A targets from the Midwest isn't good enough to keep things rolling?

More than anything you need to recruit where you'll be successful imo, and that changes year-to-year, staff-to-staff.

Way up there
I think the staff is more likely to get kids from the midwest but I'm cool with whatever strategy they are currently going with. I think being were we are, its necessary to have an assistant with ties to places like Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin or even Minnesota to have some kind of a presence there but that doesn't mean they need to get sign a team full of guys from that area.

Thanks for the break down. I would caution that with THT's size, ball handling and passing ability he can play any position 2-4. I don't want to pigeon hole him into a SF role..
Prohm would use him in a verity of roles and part of his value as prospect and good get if he does commit to the cyclones.

With the Conditt news, how nice is it to be sitting with 1 scholly to fill (not gonna touch the 'every year there is attrition' topic) before next year? Allows coaches to focus on THT and really be able to sit back and accept that it's fine if we miss and just fill with a spring Juco/Transfer.

The 2018-2019 #squad is looking to be quite deep (obviously have a lot to figure out between now and then) and it will be especially nice to not have to rely on a frosh to come in and be a major impact player. Which is not to say, I don't expect anyone from the class to do so.
