Complicated is right

ISU: @ Utah; K-State
ASU: BYU; @ Arizona
CU: @KU; OSU
BYU: KU; @ ASU; Houston

On paper I'd say we might have the toughest schedule (even if Utah is bad and K-State is falling apart); and while I could see ASU losing to BYU, unless KU is starting to put it together I don't see how CU loses their remaining two games. And I don't see BYU losing to Houston.

I really hate that we forfeited controlling our own destiny with two consecutive bad weeks.

Yeah unfortunately it's going to be BYU vs Colorado almost certainly. I just don't see a way Colorado loses another game. They're on fire.

Well when you got guys playing with 1 Arm or Hammy's so bad you cannot explode on a play I gotta cut them some slack.

They only gave up 17 which is around 10 points lower than Bearcats league average.

So not exactly horrible.

Will agree chunk plays are killers
Agree 100%. Not sure there’s a ton that can be done. I assume Heacock is doing all he can. Just feel very fortunate to have gotten this win…and that it will be a bit of a miracle to get to 10 wins. Super proud of everyone though…especially Rocco.

I mean, I don’t want to throw cold water on all the optimism. I’m generally as optimistic as they come, but do we realistically see us winning three games in a row? (That being what we would need to do if you’re eyeing the playoff?). We just look like a team that is basically maxing out to be where we are right now. I’d be over the moon if we won the next two.

You’re not really as optimistic as they come then.

As I see it, the best way for the dominoes to fall

KU takes down BYU
ASU takes down BYU
KU takes down CU
ISU never loses again

That would take us to the final week needing either BYU to lose to Houston or ASU to lose their rivalry game against Arizona. The rivalry game might be the most plausible.

The TT game is going to the the one we really lament. We took the lead late, and just needed a defensive stop to win. But we don't, and because of that, we stopped controlling our destiny, and also get dinged in the "common opponent" tiebreaker with CU.

Of course, TT could have helped the cause by beating CU last week. Friggin lamewads.

I believe if BYU beats ASU and KU beats CU and ISU wins out the fact KSU beat CU gives ISU the nod.

Assuming KSU ends up with only 4 conference losses.

This however is late night analysis and could be as wrong as 2 +2= 5

Has ISU ever been 5-2 or better in conference after 7 games? Pretty sure this is the best record to this point. Lots of years in Big 8 where that was a full season and I doubt there were any 6-1 seasons since there were no Big 8 championships.

No problem with us dropping from rankings after the previous three weeks, but a whole lot of teams 15-25 really don’t have a better resume.

WSU is losing, Tulane has beaten nobody, LSU has four losses now, Louisville just lost to an avg team, KSU has worse resume now, could go on…

I’m not that passionate about it but it’s not logical to have us outside top 25. Even though our win was kind of ugly at home it’s really hard to imagine how we shouldn’t be at least maybe 21st if not 18/19 range. The reason it made sense to have us unranked was three rough looking games in a row and 1-2 in that stretch.

Of seasons with 5 conference wins or more

1977 took us all 7 games (5-2).
2000 took us 8 games to get 5 wins
2017 took us 8 games
2018 took us 7 games
2019 took us 8 games
2020 took us 5 games
2021 took us 9 games
2023 took us 7 games

Interesting. So through 7 games this is tied with two other years for second.

I think the competition is not great, but there were some beneficial schedules in some other eras too outside the 9 game round robin era where pretty much every year was tough.

I think it was knowing that there were so few years to even get 5 wins that made me wonder. I think I heard Walter’s bring that up. Ridiculous how many of them are recent even acknowledging eras where they only played 7 or 8.

Whether I think we can win 3 straight games is irrelevant at this point - I only care about what's in ISU's best interest, which is why I'm a big fan of chaos at the moment - because ISU is going to need a lot of chaos on top of 3 straight wins in order to even have a chance at the playoff (which would be where a 4th win comes in).
