Being a Vikings and Cubs fan is painful right now... Too good to tank for great talent in the drafts and too bad for a real chance in the playoffs...

IMO it's the worst spot for a franchise in professional sports

I know people on here are more in tuned than I am, but the Cubs are only 4.5 back of the WC with 20 games remaining, and have been playing pretty decent ball lately. Most of the Cubs remaining schedule is against teams already in the playoffs (maybe resting star players?) or teams who are planning for the offseason.

Braves are in the last WC spot now, but aren’t they dealing with a ton of injuries? They also have a series with a couple middling teams (teams who may still think they have a chance) and close the year with the Mets, who are only 0.5 back.

Long shot, but they can still make the playoffs.

Admittedly, I don't follow non-Cubs MLB real closely. But I've often wondered the same thing you mentioned. Beyond feeling like we have an inordinate amount of injuries in general, it seems like they do a horrible job of diagnosing and treating injuries.

I think it's more a lack of transparency of what is actually going on than diagnosis of the injury itself. Seems like they play this game of let's delay an IL stint as long as possible or be as vague as we can about the injury to make it look like something minor when they really just need to be shut down for a bit to heal.

Hope they play something like the boys are back in town for Rizzo's walk up. And hopefully we see Leiter a lot sounds like he's been terrible.

Baseballreference has us right about 6% chance to make the playoffs, which I suppose is technically still a chance but a huge longshot. I'm not holding my breath. It's football season now.

Got suckered into watching the game even though I am sort of boycotting my Yanks. I mean it is Wrigley and Rizzo was back so had to watch some. Gil was great but now you Cub fans will get to see the complete garbage that is the Yankee bullpen. Yank win probably is maybe 50% and it should be like 80-85% with a 3 run lead with three to play.

I will not be watching the 9th. Did I mention how bad the Yankee bullpen is?

Up until the last week or so I was all for just chalking Paredes up as struggling to adjust in Chicago but I’m all in on sending his ass packing as well.

I wouldn’t be too shocked, or sad, to see an entirely new infield in 2025 except for Swanson.

Don't understand why we bothered to bring Vazquez up. Total of 3 AB since he has been up and Mastrobuoni gets a start instead of him.

It's a great reward for a successful competitor to sit down and watch the action.

So Jed is finally going to grow a pair and make some meaningful changes? I mean he's literally the President of Baseball Operations so everything on down from him he has control over. Haven't seen much of him making any meaningful moves other than replacing Ross with Counsell. Front office is a reflection of his leadership and strategy/decision making. Better see some bold moves being made not only cleaning out the front office if not everyone is on the same page but also the roster and not just sticking with the same mediocre status quo and acquire a big bat or 2 to compliment the glut of prospects that are coming up.

Apparently Brennan Davis was carted off the field tonight after sliding into 2nd base. Kid seems to be made of glass as much ss he's been hurt.

He's been hurt more than healthy it feels like. I thought his season was over too but I think he's been back in the lineup recently.
