On the first hole Jordan Spieth hit a perfect tee shot. Probably had a wedge for his second. Put it on the back of the green and it almost rolled off the front.

Freaking awesome right? That’s Wingfoot. If the scores aren’t high this week, they never will be again

The guys are handling this rough fairly well. Doesn’t seem to be so aggressive near the greens. Davis Thompson killing it. He’s playing really smart off the tees.

Filed away in the "they're just like us file" was Matt Wallace having his caddie tend the pin from 50 yards out only to chunk it about 15 feet forward. It's like waiting for the group ahead of you to clear and then hitting it 40 yards.

Awesome.

It will be interesting what the scoring looks like as it dries out today. Of course not playing in June is going to make a difference. The USGA will probably be out all night blow drying the greens to harden them up.

I kind of hope the greens firm up but the fairways stay close to where they are. If they get real firm, no ones going to hit them and there will be almost no shot at birdies coming out of this rough.

I think they left the greens softer on purpose, they are worried about getting it all in with the daylight.

Saturday and Sunday the brutality begins.

I can't believe JT shot a 65 on this course. The conditions could not have been better though.

This course is crazy tough. Balls hit right down the middle of the fairway are still rolling off into the rough sometimes. And getting it out of the rough is no guarantee.

I do love this course though. I just wish it had 4 par 5's instead of just 2. Par 5's are the most exciting for me to watch.

Awesome.

“It’s a 321 yard Par 4 and I’ve got driver pulled...better wait until they clear the green just in case...”

This is simultaneously the most ridiculously awesome and stupidest thing I’ve seen. WTF are these greens?

+8...that would be awesome. A pretty outrageous score by today's standards, even for a US Open. 13 and 14 years ago was +5, '74 was +7, and the most recent score higher than +8 was in 1963 (+9). I didn't get to watch much today so I don't know how difficult it was, but they're going to have to put the greens and fairways in custom ovens if they want to get there this week.

From what I can gather on Twitter, the USGA set it up easier today than what the club wants. They can always speed the greens up with subair

They better make it more difficult. I want the players to feel the burn out there. 5 under for any day at the US Open is no good. This is the one tournament that can make them feel more like mortals. I don't want an Erin Hills all over again. Ramp it up!!
