I was at a bar with no audio on, but since when does Daren Devries play this style of basktball? I've seen him many times at Drake and they played uptempo and weren't physical at all.

This reminded me of thre Huggins teams where they foul all the time so the refs can't call everything. I honestly lost alot of respect for Devires today, that's garbage basketball.
Said it earlier, but I think they knew their only chance to win was to junk up the game. Reminded me of TJ's first team.

He knew what he had to do to win. No way they were winning if they tried to go up tempo.

Just like TJ, you adjust your team however needed to get the W.

Why can’t we have nice things as Iowa State fans? As painful as it’s been to be a Capitals and Commanders fan, at least the Caps finally won it all in 2018 and the Commanders won a huge game tonight. As happy as I am to see my pro football team make the semifinals, for some reason, this ISU loss stings hard enough that it hurts badly and I still feel poopy.

I mean, if you're hinging your happiness on going undefeated in the Big 12, you're never going to be happy. Everyone is going to have a stumble in the Big 12, and this wasn't even necessarily that, as WV has a decent team and a good coach, and that's a hard place to play. Certainly didn't play to our potential, but no one does every night.

I agree. I was not looking forward to this game. I hate when we play anything in Morgantown. Credit to them I guess…their fans are super annoying. And their teams play well at home.

They're still #4 on Kenpom, 3 on Torvik after a loss.

These are very nice things.

Adopted his style to what he has evidently. He got the W that is what the WVU fan base cares about, it's not like TJs early teams didn't muck things up.

Wherever I go, there I am.
I do t disagree that we missed Milan. Statistically speaking you’d expect us to have a few more 3s go down if he played.

But I don’t think the shots were the problem - meaning that overwhelming majority of them were good looks. We just could not make any.
True. Statistically speaking you'd expect us to have more 3s go down even without him. This was a clinker of a game where they just didn't fall.

It's a tried and true basketball strategy. Over a large number of possessions, a superior team will outscore an inferior team. So as the inferior team, you slow the game down to minimize number of possessions and hope you make more shots. It's like if you flip a coin and want it always to be heads. If you flip it only five times, that might happen. If you flip it 100 times and that will probably never happen.

I don't know how anyone enjoys watching it as a fan, but if the game is officiated like it was last night, it can be effective.

Lots of overreacting here. Close loss on the road to a solid team in a game that the refs were awful and we played awful and still easy could have won.
Stop being sensible and realistic, its harshing everyones negative emotional buzz.

Yeah, no one is gonna go 20-0. WV is a good team, esp at home. Losing sucks but without looking, this was prob the 4th toughest game left on the schedule (at AZ, KU, UH).

They did play like crap, its gonna happen some nights.

Losing to west Virginia team absent one of their best players does not feel or look good in my opinion. As far along as we've come on offense, this team still possesses only two real outside shooting threats, and one of those guys is out til March

I'd check the metrics (Torvik and Kenpom) that include yesterday before posting something like this.

Things are looking really good.

Maybe also see who also lost and where yesterday.

And, there's still outside shooting threats there. It wasn't happening for anyone yesterday.

Agree. He's a Tavern Hawk, I'll be rooting against him from here on.

I don't just watch basketball because I like to see ISU win, that's great but I also like to watch good basketball. That was garbage basketball last night and WVU did it on purpose.

Really stupid to think you need to rewrite his game when he's played so well. Glad you're not the coach. You take the bad with the good. Same thing you don't love all cujos drives, but you take it because to lose that you'd lose aggression.
that is stupid? Look, he does play great most of the time, but are you going deny he is careless and out of control at times? Are we not allowed to critique the player at all? If a fan says he has room for improvement you go to "glad you're not a coach" card. Geez.

I didn't think WV slowed the game doen but I don't have the possession numbers to compare.

They got out and ran and had more speed than ISU in some spots.

Almost half their points were threes including from guys that I don't believe usually hit like that.

I would imagine TJ and staff are not looking at last night and saying ~ "Well we just played bad and got a bad draw from the stripes, let's change nothing and learn nothing, on to the next one". They will be looking at how we can improve and how we can address our shortcomings/limitations highlighted in this game. Nothing wrong with fans discussing the same, that's not "overly reactionary".

It seems that DeVries values victory more than your opinion of him. If you were a coach, and your clear best chance to beat an opponent was to go all-out Huggins, would you do it?
