18 minutes for Cade and only 1 turnover. I know he's not too much of an offensive threat but he's got an OK handle.
His +- wasn’t great, but not sure how indicative it is in this situation.

I agree. The tournament is really the only thing that matters.

Take the 21-22 season vs the 22-23 season.

22-23 we were more competitive in B12 play, but due to that first round travesty vs Pitt it’s what I remember about that season.

21-22 conference play was rough at times but the S16 made me forget all about it.

Granted, expectations were vastly different going into each season and that also plays a role when looking back.

21-22 also helped in it was Otz first year with a team that went 2-22 the previous year… plus we beat the piss out of Wisky in their own backyard to make the second weekend. Losing to Miami sucked, but as good as we were defensively through effort that season we just weren’t equipped to defend a team as fast as Miami was that year.

The biggest thing we need moving forward is having our full roster.....obviously. However, the other things that stuck out after the OSU loss was how bad our offensive flow and effort were. Since that game, no matter who has suited up for us, our offensive flow and effort have been great. If Tamin and Keshon are back next week, I am highly confident we make it into the Sweet 16. Who knows what could happen after that.

Anyone got some NIL money lying around to get Lipsey and Gilbert motorized wheelchairs for a month-long rental? Rest that groin.

them hiring Kevin Young from the NBA was genius....the NBA has never been more of an offensive league than it is today....and even though having a really good defense can take you far, having a really good offense with sharp shooters ever and great spacing, that's a deadly combination.
Agreed, plus I think CW or Blum stated that one of the Phoenix Sun’s minority owners is a big BYU booster and NIL contributor. A good coach with lots of NIL funding is a lethal combination.

BTW - ESPN’s #1 basketball recruit for 2025 is committed to BYU. As much as I dislike the program, they are not going anywhere.

Well unfortunately we’ve become their *****
Not at all. ABSOLUTELY NOT.

Full disclosure: BYU fan here.

ISU was in a very difficult spot, down 2/3 of the best backcourt in the Big XII and having played a tough game yesterday. If Iowa State had won this game it would legitimately have been one of the best wins in your program's storied history because it was a definite uphill battle to start with and the odds were SO stacked against you.

I think someone would have gotten second-degree burns if they had touched Curtis Jones in the first half, but I also thought that playing the game yesterday would hurt his long-range shooting in the second half and it did. The first place fatigue shows up is always in the jump shots, and the incredibly intense way he plays defense takes a LOT of energy.

Momcilovic had a great game, considerably better than the last time these teams played, and Jackson showed a tremendous amount of heart and muscle. BYU had a big rebounding advantage last game, but definitely not this time and a lot of that was Jackson. Not having Lipsey REALLY hurt ISU though because he and Jones together are absolute murder in the trapping defense you guys run. Kelderman gave it his best, but he's no Lipsey. No shame there: damned few are. Jefferson is a beast and a damn good ball handler for a big man, but not having Lipsey hurt there too.

This game wasn't remotely a fair test of ISU. I think with a healthy Lipsey, a healthy Gilbert and no game yesterday you guys probably win by at least ten.

Just as a side note, I was watching this game with BYU fans and they were yapping about all the fouls ISU committed that didn't get called. I think one thing we can all agree on is that officiating overall DEFINITELY needs to improve. Some of those guys look like they could use seeing-eye dogs out there!

One last comment: the more I see Coach Otzelberger, the more impressed I am. I don't know when his contract is up but when it is, whatever it costs to keep him, PAY IT.

Good luck in the rest of the season!

I want to beat BYU next year! But like it or not, BYU being good, is good for the conference.

I've been really impressed by the effort of Jackson + Jefferson the last couple of games. There's a lot we can't control, but the guys on the floor have been showing they're locked in and putting in 110% effort. Get a week to heal and who knows where we'll be.

Gee, second guessing the coaches. That's a new one!
Not second guessing so much as wondering out load, but as a fan we are allowed to second guess a coach. They were torching us, why not through out a zone in the first half and see if it will slow them down, if it doesn't work, then you can say you at least tried something different.

folks are pretty sure we have a 3-seed locked up, is that what i'm understanding?
Reasonably confident. There's an outside chance we don't, but it's one of those that we can't predict if that's the case until we know what the committee is thinking. Those around us have worse losses and some, quite a few recent losses.
