I wasn’t too worried up 14-10, it was clear we were the better team. But weird **** can always happen.

But the sequence with the 2 picks then running it down their throats was nice. From 14-10 to 28-10, and it’s ballgame.

How many of our past teams have been able to put teams away in the second half like we’re seeing this year?

Consistently?

I'm going with never.

Yes I am 65 years old and know that fact. This team has amazed me. No o-line penalties in crucial situations. NICE!

I am watching a replay of the game. ISU punted on their first 2 drives of the 3rd quarter. The game was very much in doubt with ISU up 14-10 late in the 3rd quarter. Greene had a 28-yard run to the ISU 33 with 2:50 left in 3rd quarter. Two plays later Patton had the INT to give the ball back to ISU. Then Rocco converted a 3rd and 8 with the pass to Eli Green. That led to Hansen's second TD to put ISU up 21-10.

The past 2 seasons ISU would dig too big of a hole and/or fail to pull away from teams in its losses. The difference this year has been getting the key turnovers and 3rd down conversions. This sequence against WVU epitomized both.

It’s not surprising the game was in doubt at that point. The spread was 3 points and all I heard all week was how good West Virginia was. Sometimes I think fans think that the other team spots us 14 points at the start.

Bruns said on his podcast this morning that Green projects as a slot receiver in the NFL.

Hok fans are hating our success. Their delusional predictions of us being in a JV conference have proven to lack any serious merit, and I hope they enjoy seeing Matt hoisting the Big 12 trophy while Kirk cashes another paycheck while preparing his team for another ass kicking from a SEC team in a mayonnaise bowl.

In the context of an ISU fan saying this, I'm not shy to say: What has WVU really done in this conference? Especially in Brown's tenure. Last year was kind of a soft schedule job saving reprieve year for NB. I wasn't really worried about this game at all.

Sure, when we almost went down two scores I was starting to sweat, but it was really just because we're iowa state and weird stuff happens. But that's it.

They were lucky to be in the discussion as a contender IMO. That secondary was terrible, and the run game was nothing special. Don't even need to comment on how Garrett Greene played.

Being down 23 -10 in the 4th quarter would be "being in doubt".

ISU with a lead in the 3rd quarter is not "being in doubt".
I agreed with you.

To be fair, hiwever, the term “in doubt” generally refers to “the outcome of the game”, or “the winner is in doubt”, rather than “ISU wins the gane”.

I think you were both speaking in different terms.

Though, come to think about it, any lead in the fourth quarter with Jon Heacock as DC is pretty much a lock.

I went back and read the early part of this thread and wondered why everyone was freaking out. When we scored the go ahead TD I thought to myself. Thanks WVU it was a good effort but it's over.

(not directed at you, not "killing the messenger")

"After putting together a nine-win season in 2023 and returning a bunch of talent from that team, the expectation was that the Mountaineers would vie for a spot in the Big 12 Conference championship game."

Who the hell said WVU would vie for Big XII title game?

Most projections had it around a 7th-place finish.

I find it kind of funny they are this worked up about losing to Iowa State. As one of the better teams in this conference since 2017 and a top 15 team this year that has won 6 straight conference road games, there’s no shame in losing to us. Like any elite team, it’s tough to beat us.

I’m saying this in jest, but still….. ;)
