WVU is one of those teams who had a good run starting 20+ years ago (averaged 9.5 wins/year from 2002-2011) and is still getting hype and praise based on that.

The pre-season hype was that Greene is an NFL QB, definitely didn't look like it last night.

They have a strong football history starting in the 80s. They have a well defined and unique brand, and a big and passionate fanbase. They're also on the east coast. I agree they get overhyped, but it's not completely unfounded. Perception in college football lags by a few decades.

Hok fans are hating our success. Their delusional predictions of us being in a JV conference have proven to lack any serious merit, and I hope they enjoy seeing Matt hoisting the Big 12 trophy while Kirk cashes another paycheck while preparing his team for another ass kicking from a SEC team in a mayonnaise bowl.

They are the biggest bunch of spoiled brats when little brother gets any attention. They can't handle it. With basketball season coming, it's about to get even worse for them. Shucks.

At this point in his career I think Rocco is better than Purdy.

It's encouraging that Campbell seems to have the knack for recruiting and developing very good QBs. I can't argue with your statement. Rocco is very, very good.

Rocco has more talent around him than Brock ever did—with the exception of RB, where there’s still more functional depth than there was behind Breece.

I’m constantly bemused how CW keeps trying to compare this OL to the ‘20 unit, as if that were some pinnacle to reach. Those guys were just passable.

I'm more interested in CW's comparison of Hansen to Percy Harvin lol. I think that one has been retired, but I don't know what he saw from a power back out of a triple option high school offense that reminded him of one of the most electric players in college football.

It didn't seem like WVU ran the ball as much as I thought they would, and probably not as much as they should've.

Some of their open receivers were frustrating, but I'm wondering if some of that wasn't by design to bait them into throwing more? It eventually paid dividends with the back to back INTs.

It's possible I'm overthinking it. I can't argue with 16 points and a 2nd half shutout up until garbage time.

Brown is an offensive coach that used to run an air raid offense. He knows how to scheme guys open in the middle of the field. Also, it's football. When you're invested in every play, it might seem like they have guys running open, but that happens in every game across the country. It's about limiting those plays and keeping it to 25 yards instead of 65.

Mouser has not been talked about enough this year IMO. It felt like it took NS 5-6 weeks last year to find his groove as a play caller , but Mouse has been absolutely fantastic from the first series against UND

I loved the play call on Hansen's first TD run. I think we ran an RPO on the previous play and Rocco made the wrong read and tried to throw the slant. Hansen would've walked untouched into the end zone. On the next play, we run a designed run to the same hole and he busts through easily for the TD.

I also think we're seeing the influence of the new RB coach, Roehl. The stuff we're running with Hansen is right out of the NDSU formula, and Hansen is a great fit. He was the OC at NDSU, and I'm assuming he's getting plenty of say in the offense with Mouser as a young and first-time OC/play caller.

To me it seemed like Heacock told his linebackers to just trust their instincts and play fast to try and keep the game simple for them. It left some underneath stuff and middle of the field open but our safeties are so good they can make up for it.

That is why I was a little disappointed ISU didn’t punch it in at the end. Got to impress people that really don’t want to give ISU credit for being at the top.

Think CMC wanted to send a message for WVA taking those TO's with no chance to change the outcome, so he did the 4th down pass on the sideline out. But he didn't want to rub it in as far as WVA kids, so he went into victory formation, just MHO.

I am watching a replay of the game. ISU punted on their first 2 drives of the 3rd quarter. The game was very much in doubt with ISU up 14-10 late in the 3rd quarter. Greene had a 28-yard run to the ISU 33 with 2:50 left in 3rd quarter. Two plays later Patton had the INT to give the ball back to ISU. Then Rocco converted a 3rd and 8 with the pass to Eli Green. That led to Hansen's second TD to put ISU up 21-10.

The past 2 seasons ISU would dig too big of a hole and/or fail to pull away from teams in its losses. The difference this year has been getting the key turnovers and 3rd down conversions. This sequence against WVU epitomized both.

Being down 23 -10 in the 4th quarter would be "being in doubt".

ISU with a lead in the 3rd quarter is not "being in doubt".

I don't even know that it was a message. Seems like it was simply what WVU forced us to do.

We could have run out the clock if they hadn't called timeouts, but we ended up with a 4th and 3 on the 31 yard line. You're not punting from there. I suppose we could have kicked a 48 yard field goal. But given how our offense was chugging along at that point I think we just wanted to get a first down and get out of there without giving them back the ball.

My thoughts as well… Purdy’s OL didn’t pass protect good at all most of the time. Purdy was always under pressure. But don’t get me wrong as I hope Rocco breaks all of Purdy’s records.

In all fairness I bet you Brock wants that too in some ways, knowing the program is in great hands at his position
