Not exactly sure.
I had heard that some teams in that Drake and UNI size will decline anything below that NIT level since you generally lose money on the game. Costs more to play than what they pay you for playing.

Drake's problem with getting an NIT bid is that they played NO ONE during the Non-con. Getting beat by Iowa State and beating New Mexico State isn't exactly a great resume.

I feel bad that they can't host that first CIT game because all of their administration will be running the NCAA site. That's a bad break though if they get by Southern Utah they should get to play everything at home the rest of the way. UNI chose not to play in the CIT, fwiw.

Good, I thought they deserved NIT for sure, but at least they got something.

This seems a bit overdone:

"Once again The Classics will be a part of the 2019 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament. The Coach John McLendon Classic, Hugh Durham Classic, Lou Henson Classic, Jim Phelan Classic and Riley Wallace Classics will all be contested in the first round of the CIT. At the conclusion of each game a trophy will be presented to the winning team, which will then advance to the second round of the tournament. -- “Get the Trophy and Advance.”"

For the low sum of $24.99, they offered to hold the Acylum Classic. I passed.

Let me see if I got this straight. Drake is playing in the CIT but an away game that would normally be home because they have their hands full with round 1 NCAA. Makes sense and good for them playing in the postseason.

That about sums it up.

They didn't have anywhere near an NIT resume. This will be good for their young guys to keep playing and if all goes right they might have a shot to win it though Texas State, Kent State and Marshall are all pretty good teams as well.
