In my opinion....there is no reason Ames shouldn't have
Olive Garden
Outback
BWW
Kohls
A real sports store (MC Sports, Sports Authority)
Krusty Krab
A real mall (recruits typically visit these while they are here.)

The biggest problem with Ames is Ankeny is stealing everything. When there is something within 25 mins that may cause Places not to build in Ames.

That being said...Ames does have a bunch of cool eating places that people don't know about. the stuff listed above just helps put Ames reputation out a tad...

No - the city council is the biggest problem. There are many establishments that would be in Ames but for the council and their consistently anti-growth policies.

Seriously, the people of Ames have been screwed over time and again by the anti-growthers on the city council.

Traditional wings- WCW>BWW
Boneless wings- BWW>WCW

Boneless wings? What kind of a man eats boneless wings? What's the point of eating a chicken wing if you can't enjoy the feeling of your teeth rending flesh from bone? It's savage, visceral, and gender ******* affirming. Boneless wings are for housewives and little girls.

Waiter, another fuzzy navel for the gentleman who ordered boneless wings...

Also, Olive Garden has good salad:wink:

My opinion - certainly Olive Garden isn't a bastion of fine dining, but as far dining options go, much like Applebee's, you can do a lot worse.

Bingo, now being out of school and paying somewhat attention to city matters, the council has hindered the city on many growth policies.

I remember the days when the name Bucky Wolford was just as a big deal in Ames than Dam McCarney and Bill Fennelly. That whole new mall debate went on and on and on. Smart Growth got their way and killed it though

All the chain (cough) restaurants mentioned in this thread have one thing in common. They are eminently forgettable.

People will never forget that they couldn't find good food in Ames other than HP though.

West Side Wings > BWW

I was just going to chime in on this. While I think that BW3 would be a better venue to congregate with the NTN and plethora of big screen TVs their wings just don't stack up.

I've been going to BW3s for almost 20 years. Something happened to their wings. The Blazin' wings are hot, but are overpowered with some weird taste reminiscent of grass clippings.

West Cyde Wings is where it's at as far as I am concerned.

Totally agree - completely blah.

There is a TON of good food in Ames? I wouldn't even really rank HP among those restaurants.

I've heard BWW for sure and *maybe* Chipotle.

I hope not, Ames does not need another burrito place. Three is enough.

Chipotle should be on campus since Pancheros is on Duff.

BWWs >>>>>>>> West Cyd

Should be? That sounds like a great business strategy. Why locate near your competition and try to take customers away. Campustown is a dump, the property owners are morons who want way too much for rent, and there is no off-street parking anywhere near the area.

Chipotle (if it were to come to ames) would fit in well in west ames. In general that area is an untapped market. So many students living there, not much in that area of town to eat or do (though perfect games is a nice change. I wouldve been there constantly had that been there while i was in school)

This. Ames has been its own worst enemy and held itself back for far too long. The previous city councils were anti-growth...unless you were a property management big-wig, then go right ahead and over-saturate the town with apartment buildings. North Grand Mall is beyond embarassing.

Hopefully the new city council turns it around. With a great university and being close to the interstate, Ames has a lot of potential

You should see the mall where I live then. 3/4 of it is empty... no joke. And there is only ONE real "mall" store in it. GNC.

North Grand is like Jordan Creek compared to Spamville, MN's mall.

Wait a minute... You bust his balls for liking boneless wings citing masculinity and being a true carnivore as main reasons.. Then you make a statement about enjoying a restaurants rabbit food. Seems a little bit contradictory...
