All these hopes of big name coordinators is very wishful thinking. Yeah, itd be great to get Applewhite or the kid from OU, its very unlikely though. Chances are, Chizik will hire someone less known and for cheaper, a diamond in the rough if you will. Most coordinators look to go up in the system, ISU is certainly not up.

I hate to say it, but I agree. I wanted Major 2 years ago and would love to see him come now.....but at this point leaving Texas as the RB coach and coming here to be OC isn't a great career move for him. Even less so on the defensive side. I hope I'm wrong.

I also disagree. Anytime someone can move from a QB coach or RB coach to a Offensive Coordinator in the same conference, it's a step up. Even for "THE GREAT AND POWERFUL MAJOR APPLEWHITE!"

Whomever is mentioning Greg Robinson must have never watched the Chiefs defenses when he coached there. That guy can stay as far away as possible as far as I'm concerned.
And Lane Kiffin's teams were awful, yet he's still a highly sought after coach? Pete Carroll was never a great NFL coach, but look what he's done in college. Also, Spurrier sucked in the NFL but he's a great college coach. So why can't Robinson be a legitimate candidate?

Also Applewhite probably went to TU with a title demotion in the hopes of becoming head coach down the road. Muschamp is now the coach of the future and Applewhite may want to look to be a Coordinator at a BCS school. Plus he is going to know all the big12 teams, giving him an advantage - plus he probably can recruit.

Major would be lucky to be on the sidelines in Ames. I would rather have someone with more experience. I dont wanna give the keys to an entire offense to a kid who has a few seasons of experience.

I don't care how young whoever we hire is, as long as they get the job done I won't complain.

Someone posted a few weeks ago that Pelton would replace Bolt as the DC. This was obviously long before we knew that Bolt was going to be demoted. I can not remember who the poster was and I am too lazy to go back and look for it. Could this be a possibility?

I hate being a part of the rumor mill and I was actually going to post this early last week but again the RUMOR is that Bolt will either be reassigned or let go and that Mike Pelton will become d-coordinator. The players really respect Pelton apparently. Take it for what its worth but I don't want people getting upset with me because I threw out something I heard.

I posted that a long time ago. Pelton is not going to be strongly considered for the job as of right now. He will be given an interview but (sadly) just because he is a minority candidate. He is a long shot to be d-coordinator. Look for somebody outside of the program and with little to no ties to Chizik to be introduced.

As far as an OC, Shane Montgomery is a legit possibility. He recently resigned from Miami (OH) as their head coach. He is a possibility because he was the lowest paid head coach in D-1 at only 144k/year---OUCH!!! ISU could definitely afford to pay him that if not more. Montgomery is only 41 and was QB coach for Ben Roethlisberger and Josh Betts---the two most prolific passers in Miami (OH) history.

I like this possibility a lot. On the other hand, how many head coaches are secure enough to hire an ex-head coach to be on their staff? Some can (like Urban Meyer), but Chizik is embarking on a very critical year...

Here is how you recruit coordinators to ISU.

Show them pictures of
1. Mack Brown
2. Jimmy Johnson
3. Johnny Majors
4. Steve Loney
5. Every other coach that has coached at ISU as an assistant that is now high profile.

Applewhite was the OC at Alabama last year. He took a demotion to go back to Texas. He has much better options than coming to ISU at this point.

You can add Pete Carroll (under Earle Bruce), Jackie Sherrill (under Majors), and others. But I don't think we're any different than any other BCS school, with the way assistants move around. Most schools have similar lists, or better.

Pretty good chance that Gene Chizik is the Defensive Coordinator in waiting at ISU. Noone knows his defense better than him. Take the time to find a quality OC that can lead his end of the deal, and the rest is cake.

If it was Pelton, he'd be announced already since he's on staff right now. There would be no reason to delay and potentially hurt recruiting. Won't be him.

Don't get too excited about Applewhite either. He was up for the job when Chizik 1st came aboard and he didn't sound too excited about coming to ISU when prompted. Far from it. I really don't think anything north of the Mason-Dixon line appeals to him.

Anybody know why he got run out of Alabama? Something must have been going on. They really faded down the stretch last year.

I hope we go with people that are young, energetic and have some crazy new ideas. Also, I don't think that the team ever respected Bolt OR MacFarland because of the physical shape they were in.

So the Kansas Jayhawks don't respect Mangino? I don't think that the bulk or size of McFarland or Bolt has anything to do with anything. DUMB analogy. Besides, Bolt has lost a ton of weight and the defense sucked worse than the offense.
