How about 2005 offensive coordinator of the year Al Borges (Auburn). I looked back and he coached with Chizik at Auburn. He is not currently coaching.

Good ties, can recruit in the south

I like this. Sounds like it actually make a little sense. Plus, if the Chiz has been in contact with this guy over the years and is aware he is not coaching (and maybe looking to get back in), may have made Chizik's decision to demote McFarland even easier. I have a feeling that these searches have already been in the works for a while.

Borges' first year at Auburn he had the offense where Ronnie Brown and Cadillac Williams were the feature running backs.

Sounds like my kind of offense.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Ditka yet. Just throwing it out there.
I think Ditka coming here would lead to the "Ditka Rule" by the NCAA. We would be way too powerful with Ditka, so he wouldn't be allowed to coach here, just perennial powers.

Would love to see Gus Malzahn as OC, I have followed his career so far, and other than a raw deal at Arkansas, is the real deal, and Tulsa's offense has proven it the past couple of years. QB coach and an OC, he would fill both holes we now have! Borges was still on Auburn's payroll this year I believe, which is why he may not be coaching yet.

Tubberville has replaced the OC 8 times in 10 years or something like that, so he may have been in the wrong place at the wrong time there as well.

I'm sure the Ditka Rule also outlines specific recruiting violations. Being recruited by Ditka is just plain unfair to other schools. :biglaugh:

Maybe the new DC will be Gene Chizik. He looks bored sometimes on the sidelines, maybe it is time he starts calling the defense.

**** Bumpas. The TCU DC. He's tight with Patterson, so I don't know if he's interested, but he is very good.....

Look for Mike Bajakian from Central Michigan to be thrown out there for OC. He got a bit hosed by the AD when Butch Jones was thinking about jumping ship to West Virginia when that job opened. Bajakian was told he would not have an interview for the head coaching job at CMU had Jones landed in West Virginia. His offenses are ridiculous (in a good way) and are based around a mobile quarterback. He does not have any ties to Chizik or Iowa State, however, he has wanted to coach in a BCS conference since he went back into the college ranks. He recruits Illinois and his native New Jersey quite well.

Demontie Cross was a linebackers coach at ISU from 2001-2005. He is currently with the Buffalo Bills as linebackers/special teams coach. He has no ties to the current coaching staff but coached against McFarland when the two were at Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State, respectively. He would make a good DC because he was a standout safety at Mizzou and could recruit the St. Louis area well.

Mike Schultz from TCU has run a very well balanced passing and rushing attack. Can recruit the hell out of West Texas also. Depends on if Patterson lands a bigger head coaching job.

Les Koenning from South Alabama would also be a possibility as OC. He graduated from Texas and has wanted to get back in the Big 12 since he was not retained at Texas A&M following the firing of Dennis Francione.

Tony Pierce at Alabama State has ties with Mike Pelton (Defensive Line coach). Pierce was Division 1-AA assistant of the year and has an impressive resume.

I just hope our new coordinators come with a strong recruiting pipeline. Theere are a lot of schemes on both offense and defense that work well if you have the right talent. Obvioulsy, in the Big XII you need a high scoring offense. I'm not buying that we will ever have enough defensive power to play a ball control offense and win against teams like Okie State, TTU and Missouri. We need a respectable (and fast) defense) and a high scoring offense. Again, he needs to hire coaches than can recruit better players.
