Should really just go to a 58-game season. Play everybody once at home and once on the road. https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/27767289/dirty-little-secret-everybody-knows-about?platform=amp&__twitter_impression=true
THT sighting! Sitting next to LeBron on the bench chatting. Wild seeing that. He’d be a soph this year..
https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/27864309/bradley-beal-wizards-agree-2-year-72m-extension Mildly surprising that someone would voluntarily choose to stay with the Wizards. Beal set himself up for a monster payday in a few years, but there will be a lot of losing to endure in the meantime.
Some people want their legacy to be championships (KD), others are perfectly content to go after 5 years $266 million on bad teams. Players will learn Mandarin for that kind of money.
I'll feel bad for Wizards fans if DC throws 266 million at Bradley Beal in three years. He'll be 29 years old, which isn't ancient by any means but is also a hell of a lot to spend on a guy who's just an All Star and is maybe, at his best, a second or third All-NBA team kind of player.
They're a long ways away. Dumping Grunfeld was a start but there's a ton of long term money now tied up in Wall and Beal and not much else on the roster. They're basically at the starting point of a multiple year rebuild, which makes the Beal contract that much more confusing. He's essentially the only valuable trade chip they had and he's not quite good enough to elevate them to playoff contender by himself.
https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/27866622/there-not-100-players-better-me "There's not 100 players better than me", said the man who was the NBA's 18th highest paid player last season.
https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/27872589/sources-pelicans-rookie-zion-williamson-knee-expected-miss-weeks Zion already sidelined to start the season. That sucks. I hope it's just a fluky thing and/or the Pels are being very cautious. But someone that big and explosive, I wonder if knee problems are just going to be a recurring issue for him.
I don't think anybody is taking this very seriously. Shams tweeted the new listed heights for several NBA stars vs their listed heights in 2018. You be the judge: Anthony Davis 2018: 6'11 Anthony Davis 2019: 6'9.75 KD 2018: 6'9 KD 2019: 6'9.5 Klay 2018: 6'7 Klay 2019: 6'5 And my favorite... Joel Embiid 2018: 7'0 Joel Embiid 2019: 6'11.75 I think it's fair to say that the league is still playing pretty fast and loose with the listed heights and weights of its players.
Busy day for NBA teams and their young stars. Today was the deadline for teams to sign 2016 draft class members to an extension of their rookie contract. Indy gets a bargain for Sabonis. Considering how important outside shooting is in the league now I think that Buddy Hield deal is going to age really nicely. The Kings did something smart! Celts sign Jaylen Brown, 4 yrs/115 mil Pacers sign Domantas Sabonis, 4 yrs/77 mil Spurs sign DeJounte Murray, 4 yrs/64 mil Kings sign Buddy Hield, 4 yrs/94 mil
Opening Night! Pelicans @ Raptors lost a little shine with Zion already on the shelf. Lakers and Clips in the late game. No PG for the Clippers and no Kuzma for the Lakers.
Still a couple of pretty good games. Really interested to see how the new look Pelicans are like, even without Zion. Time to start hemorrhaging money on Fanduel again.
Excited as could be to watch my Raptors receive their rings tonight. Hoping to see Matty Ice get some meaningful time too!
Really unsure. I know Nurse is not happy with how the non-holdover bench players have looked this preseason but with two players out he may get in. He's going to be in for a dog fight for minutes this year with how Terence Davis from Ole Miss has looked since we picked him up. He's expected to be our next "Fred Van Vleet" in the sense of a hidden, undrafted gem.
