I've been thinking of getting something fun to drive (though may wait a bit to see if used car prices drop). I'm not mechanically skilled. Of these cars and era of that car, which is generally the best mechanically speaking?

90's Firebird
90's Camaro
Late 90's-2000's Mustang
80's Corvette

I'm not a Ford guy but I think it's 302 is a better motor than the 305 those cameros and firebirds will likely have.

Personally I'd prefer the pre 1982 Gen 2 cameras and firebirds. Should have the 350 05 400 and just so much better looking the the Gen 3 knight rider version.

Full disclosure I have a 79 TA.

Honestly you’d need to narrow your time spans down for most car guys to have an opinion.

Not sure if it was an anomaly but my neighbor had a mid to late 90s firebird and it felt like he spent 100s of hours keeping it running.

I want a 71 cheville convertible, burnt orange with white stripes.

A buddy in high school (roughly 2003) got this exact car (minus the convertible) handed down to him by his grandma with around 45k original miles. Orange, white stripes, white interior, AC, etc. The car was gorgeous. He ended up selling it for something stupid like 8 grand to get a Ford Exploder. Oh how I wish I had the money at that time to buy it.

It's not the most unique choice, but the 68 Mustang GT is the pinnacle of the muscle car mountain, as far as I'm concerned.

It sounds like OP has $10-20k to spend guys... Not $40-50k+.

I like the pre-82 Corvettes myself. No matter what you get you'll want a mechanic to check it out with you.
