Washington doesn't seem poised to be a playoff contender anytime soon, but adding a + player in Monte should help. I did enjoy watching the Nuggets play, and probably still will. Jokic and Murray are exciting players. Monte being on the team was kind of just the cherry on top.

I get that but I'd rather he get a chance to be a starter, more PT and a big pay day. He's earned being a starter and Denver won't give that to him.
Fair enough, he'll definitely get his shot with the Wizards. I'm trying to rationalize a bit as I live in Denver and Monte being on the Nuggets made my interest in the NBA skyrocket. Remember going to my first Nuggets game in like 2018 to see Monte and thinking "who is this Jokic guy, he doesn't look very athletic" :p

My selfish thought is we won't see him as much on TV because as a contender Denver was on a lot but not Washington.

The part that I think is the worst is that Monte was the perfect PG to run with a point-center like Jokic. It was fun to watch them play together and Jokic seemed to really respect Monte's game.

The perfect pg to play with Jokic would be one with size to defend wings too. If you don't need someone to handle the traditional pg aspects of ballhandling/shot creation, being able to go bigger and switch more defensively helps you take advantage of Jokic's skills more.

I remember the emotional rollercoaster learning that Hornacek got traded from Phoenix to Philly. ("Yes, he is going to Philly where he can play with Barkley!" --- "Oh no, he is getting traded for Barkley!") Jeff was only in Philly for a year and a half before another team recognized his value. I'm sure pretty much everyone knows how the remainder of his career went at Utah.

The point is, if you can play and make the players around you better there is a pretty good chance that a contender will take a look at acquiring you at some point. Being able to demonstrate what he can do as the #1 at point could be just what he needs to make himself more desirable to a playoff team in the next few years.
Good point. He has two more years on a very team friendly contract, definitely opens up a lot of possibilities if he continues to improve as the #1 in Washington.

Sucks, but I get it. I was always hoping Monte would prove himself and they'd slide Murray over to SG as he does well off ball. Monte was consistent but just didn't give them enough. His defense against playoff PGs was not good. Bones Hyland was far less consistent, but showed flashes as a rookie of being really good. Barton is decent, but thinks he's better than his which makes him a bit of a liability. What denver needed was a solid SG that plays D. Appears this trade got playing time for Bones, removed Barton, and got them the SG they could actually use.

I know nothing about the Wizards other than they've never been good. Sigh. At least Monte should get a chance to show he really is a starter! Still want Denver to win a Championship. Also, might just become a bigger Pacers/Haliburton fan.

It was rough watching the playoff defense. There are so many good scoring PGs in the west it was hard to hide him the past 2 years.

I had no idea who the Wizards even had on their roster at this point - but good lord, they are paying Porzingas $32M.

Beal, Porzingas and Kyle Kuzma are the only players they have making more than Monte. As (assuming Johnny Davis isn't a PG, which we saw in the NCAA tourney) Cassius Winston is the only PG on the roster.

This makes sense. Love Monte, but his size really limits how good he can be defensively in the NBA. Denver gets a chance to retool a little bit and Monte gets a fresh start with a team that's kind of blank canvas in and of themselves.

Woof, that is a rough trio of 'stars'. Beal is great, when healthy, but Porzingas better years are behind him. Not that he's all that old, but he seems washed. I've never really cared for Kuzma dating back to his Lakers days.

if it gets Monte more PT, being a starter and more $ then this is awesome

I forget the exact details, but I think Monte got a $30m - 3 year deal. I don't think him playing more is going to substantially increase his value, he might get $15m/year just the way the deals are going, but he's not and will never be a $20m/year player.

....Haliburton, back up the truck though.

Looking at the Wizards roster, they are going to be in for a rough year. I would look to move Beal or even just let him walk at this point. They need to just blow things up.

It was hard to grasp how tiny he actually is until he got to the big leagues.

It was amazing to see Monte develop and get from the league minimum team option deals, to getting to the 9 million/yr player option contracts. It's all a lot of money, but getting yourself 5x the pay and control is amazing. Hopefully this gets him that even bigger 3rd contract.

Beal is very talented, but I don't really like him as a player. I have no stats to really point to but I just dont feel like you win with him as your first or even second best player. And as crazy as it might seem to let a 29 year old who put up 31/4/6 just two years ago walk, I would do that if I was Washington and I can't find a sign and trade deal for him.

Also, OKC was very close to trading Harden to Charlotte for the 2rd pick in the 2012 draft to take Beal. Beal as a 3rd option to Durant and Westbrook is a very interesting alternate history what if. Really would have been a great fit for him.

Dang, sucks for Monte. Although at most he will be there for what? Two years? Which means he could be in for a nice new contract after that if he play well. Also, might not be there his whole time anyway, Wizards need picks and young players, Morris could be a nice trade piece to acquire that from a playoff team that needs a guard.

That sucks. The Wizards are a **** organization, they don’t know what they’re doing. Not the trade, just all around.
