Hoiberg was the reason RW was in the position he was to succeed. How many coaches would have put him at point forward?

I've mentioned this before--I have a strong belief that Hoiberg's demeanor is the reason RW was able to complete an entire season of college basketball.

Diante Garett?

This goes on and on, but I don't see someone like Ejim growing into a Conference POY with too many other coaches, and while I think he's regarded as a real good player, where does Niang go and have the kind of success he's had in two years?

Signed,
Deandre Kane

in his intro pressed, Hoiberg essentially takes credit for turning a good player into a consistent 3 shooter. He predicted that he could help guys reach their potential.

I remember his "every NBA exec in my phone" line at the presser and the buzz it created.

Hope CFH deleted Sterling today so his exec contact list is accurate. :)

Wonder what CFH thinks of this whole Sterling thing? He'd never pun locally comment, but you know he probably could tell stories, etc. Hoiberg to clippers?

I remember being really scared when Fred was hired.

I mean how do you fire a legend.

The get psyched mix has been ALL RISE ever since!

Shot through the HEART!

Thanks for posting.

Crazy how in as little of 3-4 years he goes from that (doubted by folks openly, saying he should be an assistant) to total Swagberg and becoming a national name in college coaching. Thats why I loved toward the end when JW was laying out his personal belief in Fred....you could sense his authentic excitement and belief in Fred as a person.

Not much of a story, but I was super pumped, talked to my mom who was super pumped as were all my friends I talked to back in Iowa. Which I thought was pretty much the sentiment everywhere. Was awfully surprised when I came on this site last year and someone linked back to a thread and saw how many people were unhappy with the hire.

Not going to claim it was necessarily a rational approach to it, but what was not to like? If it failed it failed, there was no place to go but up.

I think the math is correct — Hoiberg is one of only four Iowa State coaches in history to go .500 or better in four straight seasons:

Menze: 1929-32
Strannigan: 1955-58
Anderson: 1960-63
Hoiberg: 2011-14

Yes but watch out for people who look like Moby.

In all seriousness, I like a lot of people grew up idolizing Hoiberg. It was a dream hire for me. Happy and excited immediately, but did I also have a fear of what if it didn't work... sure.
My issue was not so much, how could you fire a legend. That would have worked itself out quickly had he not had success. My fear was more concern for Hoiberg. I wanted him to succeed so badly, but there was worry that perhaps this was not the right timing. That he wasn't ready yet.
My fears were somewhat resolved though when the hire was praised by so many NBA people on national radio. I figured they must have some idea of his abilities, perhaps more than people covering the college game at the time. Then when he hired his staff, I felt even more confident that it would work out well.

The highs of the Hoiberg era are numerous so far. After reviewing Fred’s “first 4-year term,â€￾ I realized something that may be lost in the shuffle: His teams have had few “bad losses,â€￾ and that includes his first season, when ISU endured that long, occasionally frustrating losing streak.

Despite having no flawless seasons at Hilton, almost every home-court loss has come vs. legit opponents, and most of the losses regardless of venue were teams with a pulse.

(Please correct any inaccuracies).

Most-recent home loss vs. non-NCAA Tournament team: UNI, Nov. 30, 2011
Most-recent home loss vs. sub-NIT team: Oklahoma, Jan. 29, 2011

Losses vs. non-NCAA Tournament teams, years 2-3-4:
