Some interesting records here, I see three pretty distinct groups of coaches.

Duncan: 3-1 (.750) *even more impressive as 3/4 of the games were in Iowa City.

    Bruce: 1-1 (.500)
    Chizik: 1-1 (.500)
    McCarney: 6-6 (.500)
    Rhoads: 3-4 (0.429)

    Campbell: 0-3 (.000)
    Criner: 0-4 (.000)
    Walden: 0-7 (.000)

Biggest surprise (positive): Duncan. After dropping the renewal game in '77 went on to have a solid showing vs Iowa.

Biggest surprise (negative): Has to be Walden. No idea how they guy was a coach for 7 seasons with only 1 winning record.

He was a coach for 7 years because the ISU administration thought football was a passing fad.

Winning the Iowa game has never really been a predictor of a great season for ISU. It's important for bragging rights, but still only one game on the schedule. Donnie's .750 pct really didn't mean much in the grand scheme of things.

Losing to ISU has never really negatively impacted TOE (with the possible exception of 2002.. that one still probably hurts)

ISU has only gone to a bowl game 4 times (13 total bowls) in the years they’ve lost to Iowa.

Iowa still ends up in the OB that season in my opinion even if we would have beaten ISU.

I dont think Iowa would have leaped a 13-0 OSU or 12-0 Miami.

I can do Bowl games for you, but the other one is going to require some in depth digging, LOL.

    Bowl Games:
    McCarney - 2 wins
    Campbell - 1 win
    Rhoads - 1 win

Iowa was terrible when Duncan coached, Walden wasn't really the problem, Criner and lack of administrative support were the problems.

Earl Bruce was coach for the renewal game (that's why he has a record at all.) Walden was an excellent coach, but as others have said, he received no support at all from the administration. Our facilities were embarrassingly bad. Once McCarney was hired, they began to invest some. Walden also had to deal with scholarship restrictions his first 4 seasons and Iowa had some very good teams in that era. Even so, Walden managed wins over both Nebraska and Oklahoma.

I hate to tell you but Donnie Duncan wasnt hired until after Earle Bruce left for thee ohio state university after the 1978 season...but yes Donnie hated the TOE and raisin face with a passion and won 3 games in a row after dropping the 1979 game.....for the record I was over in Iowa City for the first four games after the renewal

After Walden went 6-5 in 1989 he was given a long term contract and the university didnt want to pay the money so they just keep him as the football coach, until in 1994 good ol' Jimmy Dean Walden went 0-10-1 for the season ....If I remember correctly Gene Smith the AD, announce midseason that this was Jimmy Dean Waldens last year...

I could care less if Campbell goes 0-20 against Iowa over the next 20 years.
It means he's doing something else positive to warrant staying that long. I could care less on a non-conference game.

Enough of the 'i don't care if we go 1-11 fans out there'.

True, I guess I look at those differently because two of the seasons were sub .500 due to bowl game losses. More forgivable than a 3-8 type year.
