Mizzou to SEC "inevitable and imminent"

You are missing one crucial point in your comparison. A middle of the road SEC team has superior athletes and superior facilities compared to the middle of the road Big XII teams. The doormats in the SEC are still landing better recruits then some of the middle of the road teams in the Big XII but you would never know with the meat grinder of a schedule they play every year. You typically don't see middle of the road SEC teams going to bowl games against the likes of Navy and get their *** handed to them. Hmmmmmm....

Dobbs runs for 166 yards, three scores as Navy crushes Missouri

Navy Midshipmen vs. Missouri Tigers - Recap - December 31, 2009 - ESPN

No, you don't. Middle-of-the-road SEC teams go to the Cotton Bowl, to play the #2-3 Big 12 team. Not the Texas Bowl, or whatever its called this year. Maybe the SEC *IS* a stronger conference.

We've actually had quite a bit of success playing the SEC under Pinkel: 8-2 or something like that. None of those have been LSU, Alabama, or Auburn, but we probably won't beat those guys much anyway. They're not in our division.

It's the "middle-of-the-road" teams that are abandoning the Big 12: MU, NU, TAMU, etc. I'd expect the future Big 12 (while it lasts) to look more like the old Big 8: Two monsters at the top, and a bunch of also-rans beneath.

This is not a MARRIAGE...this is a BUSINESS arrangement! When it became less beneficial to Mizzou to stay in the Big 12, they left. That's why they have withdrawal clauses in the by-laws.

And people say WE'RE the ones driven by emotion...

It's an analogy, and a very good one. If you weren't so busy trying to pull wild justifications out of your arse for MU's illogical, purely emotional-driven desire to play in the SEC East, you might have realized that.

It's a relationship, whether business or marriage, the point remains the same. Relationships have good things, and difficult things that need to be worked out. MU wants to retain the good of playing Big 12 teams and the Big 12 support in the KC area, but doesn't want to stay in the conference to work out the difficult things. Those kind of business partners are uselss leeches, and not worth the risk of future business endeavors.

If this is true then Mizzou fans coming on here crying about instability is the main reason of going to the SEC can just shut the hell up.

Guys...c'mon! Fescoe's pulling your chain. He has fewer "sources" inside MU than I do. If Tom Kakert came over here saying that CPR was about to take another job, what would YOUR reaction be?

There's no reason to extend a big middle finger to the Big 12 in a huge press conference while you're in the city that's most affected by the move. THAT would be stupid leadership. So what do you do?

You make promises to continue to support the community through other events (like games or touraments) while quietly acknowledging that the situation is going to change.

Look for a simple press release to be issued in the next couple days announcing our withdrawal from the Big 12.

And DON'T believe everything you read on Twitter! It's like a WVU board over here...

I think you guys should lay off Mizzou. If they get what they want out of this, it could be very beneficial for ISU.

That very well may turn out to be the case. The problem we have is that Mizzou fans seem to be completely irrational about the whole thing, and that if Mizzou leaves it could actually doom ISU athletics. On a plus side, it makes ISU a much more attractive target if and when the B1G expands, so we got that going for us, which is nice.

Big 12 Statement Regarding Missouri - Big 12 Conference - Official Athletic Site
"We look forward to discussing Missouri's future with the Big 12 Conference," said interim commissioner Chuck Neinas. "The school has been involved with the Big 12 and its predecessor conferences since 1907. It is propitious that the Big 12 Board of Directors has a regularly scheduled meeting on Monday. Obviously, Conference membership will be thoroughly discussed at that time."

That's gonna be a real short discussion. [INSERT CHUCK NEINAS AGE JOKE HERE]

me think you and fresco know about the same, if they gone, they gone but why then is nienas releasing a statement the board of directors is discussing Monday? Get over yourself already and take your condescending commentary elsewhere

Mizzoulander,

This is just a reminder for you, your school is Missouri, not Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma, or Michigan. Please order the humble pie, as you seem to be in need of a healthy dose of it.

Thanks.

Hoops is right. In the UM system, the President governs the four schools that comprise the system: UMC (Mizzou), UM-Rolla, UMKC, and UMSL. Steve Owens is the interim president.

The Chancellor (Deaton) presides over decisions affecting MU. He's been with the university in some capacity since *I* was there (a long time ago).

Which MU has screwed up now too. MU had a guy picked out Tom Hangen(sp?) who was the head of the federal reserve in KC he recently retired. They didn't want to put him in place until after the conference realignment because he is an Iowa State grad and he would have blocked the move of MU to the SEC. He is a big time supporter of the old Big 8 They jerked him around long enough the today Tom Hangen took a job working for Obama as the #2 guy for the FDIC in DC.

So now they will have to find a new System President canidate. There is also some talk now that Deaton is have cold feet about making the move and that the Govenor of Missouri is the one pushing for this.

Wow...you went to a lot of work to cut and paste all those! Nevertheless, here's the seating capacity of the stadiums in the SEC:

Tennessee 102,070
Alabama 101,000
Georgia 92,746
LSU 92,400
Florida 90,000
Auburn 87,451
South Carolina 80,250
Arkansas 72,000
MISSOURI 71,002
Kentucky 67,606
Ole Miss 60,850
MSU 67,000
Vanderbilt 39,773

I think we'll be OK. But the photos were nice.

Missouri thinks they have a voice like Beyonce, but in reality they have a voice like the person Beyonce let's sing.

From Kevin Keitzman's mouth to your ears...

Probably a good move for Hangen. I'm not sure we want someone who would "theoretically" block a move in the best interests of Mizzou because he longs for the old Big 8.

It isn't just about size. Faurot Field is a dump. Won't see many "rock gardens" in the SEC. Their facilities are light years ahead of Mizzou's and that includes Kentucky who typically finishes towards the bottom of their division in most years.

Mizzou's fans have their heads in the clouds but reality will set in very quickly if they do in fact join the SEC. If they decide to stay my hope is that the Big XII members vote to kick Mizzou out of the conference as a move to bring stability to the league.
