Mizzou to SEC "inevitable and imminent"

Probably should add A&M's 83k (official capacity, theyve brought 90k in there before) stadium as well. And they've got big improvements to that planned too.

When Ark. joined the SEC, they expanded their stadium capacity considerably. If Mizzou feels the need is there (they averaged 64K in attendence last year), they'll probably do the same thing with the additional resources.

Either way, I don't see it as much of an issue.

(BTW...you were right! It seems the Rock M IS counted in the overall seating...my mistake. I learned something today!)

Actually, it doesn't. Just like JTS doesn't include the hills on either side of the wind tunnel.

Record attendence at Faurot has been in the 75K range, because of hillside seating.

Personally, I've got no problem if they want to dynamite the north end zone and the rock M. Lots of bad history there.

Hey... do you happen to have the address of the guys on the chain gang for the 5th down game? I would love to send them a few cases of beer each. Thanks in advance.

Miizzoulander, you are saying they must have the votes otherwise they wouldn't apply. The thing is, they haven't applied yet. If Deaton has had the authority for weeks now, why hasn't he applied yet? Does he not have the right colored crayon?

To clarify: Deaton previously only had the authority to talk with other conferences. Today, they granted the authority to actually NEGOTIATE and sign with another conference, without further Curator input. He couldn't leave or apply elsewhere without going back to the board.

Big difference: as with most things Curator-related, it's difficult to keep a lid on and must be made (at least somewhat) public. That's no longer the case. Deaton has the ability to withdraw MU and join another conference by himself. Everything's behind closed doors at this point (well...as much as it ever is at MU).

What it means: Deaton has the votes for the SEC and the Curators blessing to move. The order remains:

1. Formally withdraw from Big 12
2. Apply to join SEC
3. SEC accepts

The only reason they didn't do step 1 today is that they want the "story" to be about MU supporting KC. My guess is by Sunday, step 1 is done.

Actually, they'll probably use those mythical "extra resources" to fill in the gigantic hole of what the Big XII is going to withhold from them.

And you know what? If you look closely, Bienemy never crossed the goal line on 5th down. Screwed twice on the same play.

And we haven't even mentioned the "Flea Kicker" yet...

I can't imagine that the SEC would allow Missouri to join without forcing them to sign some sort of grant of rights for an extended period of time.

How about the phantom holding call on the last play of the game against Iowa State in Dan McCarney's final game at ISU which Mizzou fans love to cry about?

Is that a fistful of jersey right there?

Kansas' Sheahon Zenger responds to Missouri's directive to pursue a game against KU in Kansas City if MU leaves Big 12

By J. Brady McCollough - Posted on 21 October 2011

Today, Missouri officials said that they would pursue a football game in Kansas City against a traditional rival if they were to leave the Big 12 Conference. MU athletic director Mike Alden said the Tigers would like that team to be Kansas.
Friday afternoon, Kansas athletic director Sheahon Zenger responded.
“KU-Missouri is a great rivalry," Zenger said in a statement. "The University of Kansas is a great Midwestern school, loyal to our Midwestern conference and to our Midwestern roots. The KU-Missouri rivalry belongs in the Big 12 Conference. Should Missouri decide to leave the Big 12, we would wish them well.”

Good for him! Mizzou is trying to make KU look like the bad guy here. I am sure Mizzou will have something to say like "It is to bad KU didn't want to continue our great rivalry" and then play it off to KC that they tried to save the game. What a bunch of CRAP!

Good for KU! While I won't say that KU is my favorite conference brother, I do appreciate their sense of loyalty to the conference should Mizzou leave. Now would be a great time for Iowa State and K-State to issue similar statements and really turn the media spotlight back on Mizzou.

Rock Chalk.

Not surprising...what's he SUPPOSED to say? "Sure...let's work out the details before you walk out the door!"

I think the Curators' message was directed more towards the KC business interests (who don't care a bit about KU OR MU) indicating our willingness to continue to support KC. I don't think they expected KU (or anyone else) to jump onboard at this time.

If it goes away, it's unfortunate. It's Kansas...what can you do? They never supported any of the league changes that MU or NU did, and they'd knife us in the back if it gave them any advantage.

So we play out the last game of the Border War (for now) and declare victory. The KU side of Arrowhead will still be half-full.

Big XII fans across the country will be cheering for Kansas that day. It will be great to watch Kansas beat Mizzou for the final time in that rivalry games history.
