From Kevin Keitzman's mouth to your ears...

Probably a good move for Hangen. I'm not sure we want someone who would "theoretically" block a move in the best interests of Mizzou because he longs for the old Big 8.

That is a hell of a price to pay to miss out your number one choice for the job. You just aren't liking what Keitzman is saying because you know it is true.

If Missou joins the SEC East, their closest division rival to the Kansas City area will be Vandy at 555 miles away, or over nine hours of driving. Right now, a KC Missou fan can get to all five of the non-Texas Big 12 schools in six hours (and obviously much quicker than that to the Kansas schools).

So Missou is smart to try to tie a tourniquet around the Kansas City area while they can, because going to the SEC is going to alienate a goodly part of the fanbase there.

Wow...you went to a lot of work to cut and paste all those! Nevertheless, here's the seating capacity of the stadiums in the SEC:

Tennessee 102,070
Alabama 101,000
Georgia 92,746
LSU 92,400
Florida 90,000
Auburn 87,451
South Carolina 80,250
Arkansas 72,000
MISSOURI 71,002
Kentucky 67,606
Ole Miss 60,850
MSU 67,000
Vanderbilt 39,773

I think we'll be OK. But the photos were nice.

Bottom half. Which is where Missouri will reside in everything in the SEC into perpetuity.

More likely, he decided the job wasn't worth the stress of dealing with the nutcases that are apparently driving the bus for Missouri higher education...

71,002 if you include the 15,000 ***-in-the-grass seats in the endzone. At least the other stadiums include actual seats.

2 big notes

1. If MU goes, they'll go to the SEC for 2012. You'd have to think the exit fee in that case would be massive given such little notice.

2. Expect a MU to SEC final decision by middle of next week.

Deaton given authority to decide Mizzou's conference home | Campus Corner

Sources for The Star immediately on Friday afternoon said they anticipated that last big step would be taken by the middle of next week. And the consensus of those sources reflected a report earlier this week in the New York Times that Missouri’s departure for the SEC was “inevitable and imminent.â€￾

------

The final question of the media conference, directed at Deaton by The Star, concerned whether a move to another conference would result in competition in that conference in the 2012 athletic seasons or be delayed for a second year, as has been suggested by Neinas.
“We would anticipate that our decision, whatever decision we make,â€￾ Deaton said, “would be applicable to the next year.â€￾

It isn't just about size. Faurot Field is a dump. Won't see many "rock gardens" in the SEC. Their facilities are light years ahead of Mizzou's and that includes Kentucky who typically finishes towards the bottom of their division in most years.

Mizzou's fans have their heads in the clouds but reality will set in very quickly if they do in fact join the SEC. If they decide to stay my hope is that the Big XII members vote to kick Mizzou out of the conference as a move to bring stability to the league.
When the SEC faithful asked ZOU what did they have of signifcance, they noted the rocky M at Faurot Field was their gee whiz. The SEC fans said, "Cm'n, man, you can get something better than the M which stands for misery."

We're talking about "MU to the Big 10 is a done deal" Keitzman? "MU will stay in the Big 12" Keitzman? You're right about one thing...I don't like what he has to say. That doesn't make him any less wrong, though.

There are people who are paid to get accurate information about sports teams. The closer they follow the team, usually the better the sources. They're not always right, but I tend to believe them.

Then there are people who are paid to stir things up, get people agitated. There is no incentive for them to get the right information, or to make good contacts with trusted sources from a particular team. People listen to them or read them because it's entertaining. Most sports radio hosts fall into this category. Keitzman DEFINITELY does.

Actually, it doesn't. Just like JTS doesn't include the hills on either side of the wind tunnel.

Record attendence at Faurot has been in the 75K range, because of hillside seating.

Personally, I've got no problem if they want to dynamite the north end zone and the rock M. Lots of bad history there.

So we now know that Missourah wants the SEC. Do we yet know if enough of the SEC wants Missourah? It has been reported that there were questions on how many votes they would get.

If I were the Big12 and Missourah were asking for a counter offer, I'd just simply tell them they can keep their TV revenue for this upcoming year. Also, they won't get a bill for the remaining $28mil. And just for fun, I'd make a public offer that if they stay the bball tournament will stay in KC permanently. If Missourah wants to win over KC, let's win that PR battle.

Now would be the perfect time for the Big 12 to announce the basketball tournament will be played permanently in KC if Missouri stays a member of the conference. Put more pressure on Missouri and KC.

Because others have pasted what they posted elsewhere...

Where Mizzou would rank in the Southeastern Conference, based on the amount of money spent by a school's athletic department? Figures are for the 2009-10 athletic season. Texas A&M, which is moving from the Big 12 to the SEC, is included for comparison.

Athletic Department Expenditures
Florida ... $105.2 million
LSU ... $102.3 million
Tennessee ... $96.7 million
Auburn ... $90.9 million
Alabama ... $85.3 million
South Carolina ... $78.3 million
Georgia ... $76.3 million
Kentucky ... $76.3 million
Arkansas ... $71.8 million
Texas A&M ... $69.2 million
Missouri ... $53.2 million
Vanderbilt ... $45.7 million
Mississippi ... $43.9 million
Mississippi State ... $36.3 million

Financial fit?

Yeah it does:

MISSOURI OFFICIAL ATHLETIC SITE - Facilities

Year-1978 Seats added - 10,800 Total seats - 62,023
NOTE: Capacity is listed as 71,004
due to seats available on north bowl
and temporary bleacher seating.

Total permanent seating at Faurot Field = 62,023

The only "reports" I've seen on that have come from the WVU message board (when they're not chattering about secret deals and ESPN's bribery). The only legitimate news had 2 nay votes for us to be put in the West Division, and unanimous support for us in the East. (from the Birmingham News..can't find link)

As inept as our leadership can be, they're not going to incinerate their bridges to the Big 12 unless they are 100% certain they'll be accepted into the SEC prior to application. If the votes weren't already there, we wouldn't be at this point.

As for the BB tournament, I think you're forgetting who runs this conference. Plus, the deals are already in place for other venues into the future. Best you could do is a soft commitment to consider KC beyond 2013.

Probably should add A&M's 83k (official capacity, theyve brought 90k in there before) stadium as well. And they've got big improvements to that planned too.

Miizzoulander, you are saying they must have the votes otherwise they wouldn't apply. The thing is, they haven't applied yet. If Deaton has had the authority for weeks now, why hasn't he applied yet? Does he not have the right colored crayon?
