As stated ISU usually uses those two Saabs but the men did have to use a United E-145 to and from Waco this year which is what Baylor uses a lot.

Texas bball uses OLD modified 737's, big seats tons of leg room. I believe WV also uses something along those lines.

Most MVC schools charter a Dornier 328. ISU has done this in the past.

I'm sure a 737 really pays dividends when they have to fly Austin to Des Moines and then bus Des Moines to Ames. Same story flying just about anywhere else in conference. :skeptical:

Most airports in the big 12 couldn't even land a 747. The 747 would be inefficient in multiple ways.

Check your facts.....I'm pretty sure this is the WVU plane (seen pre-boarding for the Big 12 trip)

I live in KC and have never heard of KU having an exclusive 747. They are however building basketball only dorms for like $20M

I believe the West Point Knights use an old C-47.

I think that got shut down since their attempt to make it half basketball half normal students was pretty pathetic in their attempt to make it look like it wasn't a special benefit.

Chartered. MVC teams will fly on a scheduled flight. KU has their own 747. It's different at different levels and schools.

747? Doubt that - it's awfully large for a basketball team of around 15 and its staff. I'd be really surprised if KU had a plane as big or bigger than Air Force One. I'd actually be half surprised if Des Moines could even handle a 747. The ideal runway length for a 747 at least take off is at least 10,000 feet if not 11,000 feet. Des Moines' runways are just over 9000 feet. Most airports in the Big 12 aren't going to be handling that.

I see someone posted that KU takes an A319. Huge difference between that and a 747. HUGE.

Des Moines handles a few 747s a year. The runways and taxiways are actually capable of handling the Airbus A380s

Maybe I'm thinking of fully loaded then. If you aren't fully loaded you could probably do it on less than 10,000 feet. Still, Des Moines' runways are larger than some of the other runways for big 12. The only people who could legitimately land a fully loaded 747 in the Big 12 is probably U of Texas and TCU. Des Moines' largest runway is like 1700-2000 feet longer than the next largest I think.
