Mediacom Speed Increase

What does mediacom charge for basic internet? Need speed fast enough to stream netflix. Can you sign up for only one year at a time?

Mediacom 12mbps is more than enough for Netflix. But with Mediacom you have a lot of reliability concerns. In Des Moines, my Mediacom internet was out every rainy day. My parents in Ft Dodge have been experiencing 6-8 hours downtime per day for the last few weeks.

Sounds like a lot of issues with stuff they've put in for the super high speed stuff screwing up the old stuff.

I got tired of the 'no internet in the rain' and went to Century Link. I get 3.5-4.5 download and have no issues with netflix.

I have streamed netflix at the inlaws as well, and they have the 1.5 Century Link...still worked fine.

Has anyone noticed their Mediacom internet speed increase above the level you are paying for? I have the 12 mbps service, but have been getting around 24 mbps download speeds lately. Some glitch?
They are teasing you....:spinny:

I get around
So this is where all my speed went to, you all stole it.
We're sucking those lines dry! I pay for 12 Mbps with a bonus of up to 15 because I have all three services with Mediacom. Actual download speeds were around 10 Mbps and now it's jumped to about 26 Mbps with no change in what I pay. Very interesting. It may have something to do with Mediacom switching to an all-digital, cable TV signal in the past couple of weeks.

The signals were starting to act goofy on all three services a few days ago so I rebooted my Mediacom cable modem and everything works perfectly. That's when, I'm guessing, the increased bandwidth showed up.

Mediacom in Ames never had contracts when I was there. Did that change in the past 4 years?

pretty much all satellite along with mediacom offer 1 or 2 yr contracts that give much better prices than paying monthly.

ames might be different since its a college town and they might give cheaper prices monthly to the college kids i guess

That's actually about right. Pretty average assuming you're on the 12 mbps level, right about where it should be.

What are you doing that 10mbps is too slow?

Mediacom raised all its provision levels above the promised levels they are sold at (so 12mbps service will be allowed to go up to 15mbps or so sustained), and also activated web boost on 12\1 service (previously only a VIP\MAX offering)
