Just as a fyi I got this notice too and it said that less than 3% of users use more than 250GB per month. So this will likely not bother to many people.

But it'll prevent the rest of their customers from dropping cable and starting to stream everything online.

Yep. They started phasing it in with new/renewed customers quite a while ago but now I think they're going to apply it to all residential customers. We signed a new two-year deal with them several months ago and it included a 250gb cap. As far as I know I haven't come close to going over so it's not a big deal to me.
if you have direct tv for tv and mediacom for internet it sucks because you have to stream to get on demand. Also sucks if you dont have cable and stream everything. Only way it doesnt suck is if you have mediacom for everything because then unless you are a big time gamer you wont come anywhere near it. Basically because mediacom has the fastest internet for most places they can use this to either get people to use everything from them or get more money from direct tv or non cable subscribers. I am in that boat. May switch to century link for internet but it is 10x slower in my area. I will probably switch back to mediacom once my direct tv contract is up as a result. This along with cyclone tv is pushing me over the edge. They are playing smart on this (unless cebtury link or others pick up the speed and bandwidth.

A rough estimate is about 1gb per hour so it would take quite a lot.

Yeah, that's about 8 hours per day of streaming and gaming. That's not going to affect the majority of customers, I wouldn't think.

With the typical download speed I get from Mediacom the 250 gig limit will never be an issue.

It sucks for me as it likely will cause me issues every now and then. I use BackBlaze and the Canon 5D Mark iii has a really large file size. And we upload all of our images to send to the various labs. Thsts not counting educational videos and our normal home use.

In the last billing period I used about 160 gig and I didn't have as much as usual to send to print and data backed up.

I'm on the 15/1 plan with the 250 gig "cap". The higher plans have a higher data cap, just don't want to pay for that just for the data cap. But if I go over, it make she most sense as I'd get the better speed.

Nice money grab, Mediacom.

Just found out my cap is 150gb. I must be on lower plan. I am at 96% of that with 7 days to go. But my son had a broken arm this month and pretty much watched netflix for 4 days straight while on bed rest... I called and asked what it would cost to go up to the 250gb plan and they said my internet bill would go from 29.99 to 54.99. So $25, if I just go over up to 250 it will be just 10 or 20 more depending on how much over I go. Granted it will be faster, though am fine with current speed.

150gb would probably be the 3mbps package which I think barely earns the right to be called high speed.

Is there any way to check on your usage without signing up for a Mediacom email address?

When I called it didn't sound like it. Somehow I already had a mediacom email address even though I wasn't aware of it. They reset my password and there is a link on the mediacom page to monitor your usage. Pretty simple after you get your login figured out.

There's really no reason to not get one. You don't have to use it. I use mine when I sign up for something that may be questionable so all the spam goes there. Never check it.

Yeah but streaming works fine through my xbox for netflix etc. Everything else I use it for (shopping, email, cyclone fanatic etc.) Is fine I am not downloading music or content really so the speed is fine. My upload speed is the same I believe regardless of package so. Really its all I need. Hell I could probably get by with the 1.5 century link crap if I ditched netflix.
