Gonna be tough to make the tourney with a point guard that can’t get you buckets. Our defense is pretty elite though so I selected ncaa tourney and 1st round exit

We're three games in against bad teams. How is this possible to know? Interested in seeing how this weekend goes...
I will say this, I'm more confident at this point in the season than I was last. Feel like we have more bodies. It may be more B+, without a clear A, I don't know, but I like this team's odds.

Right now I can't see them making the tournament. PG play is going to be an issue in conference and shooting is still a major issue. I think they will be on the bubble but on the outside looking in.

I think with our defense, we'll be a 1st or 2nd round exit team. (ended up voting 2nd round exit in the poll)

I think we make the tourney, and I think as the season progresses we'll have enough scoring to do reasonably well.

Last year we had favorable matchups in the tourney and I don't think we get that lucky again, so we'll definitely get outscored by by some team with better 3 point shooting and guard play.

Lipsey brings a lot of things to the table, but in the first 3 games of the season, it seems apparent that when he's out there, it's essentially 4 on 5 when Cyclones have the ball. On Sunday, Milwaukee packed the paint, didn't let Iowa State penetrate, if anyone even can, and made us shoot 3's. I said it in another thread, but the effort on Sunday would have been a loss 10/10 times against a Big 12 opponent, Villanova, North Carolina, Iowa, Missouri etc. Gonna have to pray Lipsey finds his stroke or TJ will probably have to really limit/lower how many minutes he can be out there.

I am confident too. But I think it has more to do with understanding TJ and how he likes this team to play. We were still just learning and figuring that out a year ago. I will be surprised if this team finds enough wins to play their way into the big tournament this year (but I think they make the NIT for sure). The team does seem pretty deep, especially in the front court, but I think they needed another guard. Kind of wish they would have kept looking after they knew AJ wasn't coming, and there were still guys in the portal that they could have pursued.

Ask me after the non-con. Right now I'm taking the optimistic route and saying 2nd round exit but its tough to say given the weak competition.

A lot of things could happen but our PG situation isn’t great (in terms of experience and point production out of that spot. I love Tamin but he’s going to have growing pains this year). Also feel like we’re on a knife edge with one injury to basically any major contributor being a pretty big problem.

On the other side we get Tre King at semester, we’ve got great size and athleticism and the defense is lights out. I said .500 would be a good stepping stone season to get to a top 10 class next year (WHAT?!?!?).

Not good:

I think we need Gabe to beat Villanova.

Damn...I was just thinking about how he's doing. Believe you're right - Villanova was already going to be a challenge. This makes it even harder.

One thing I know is regardless of record, TJ's teams will play all out and have an elite defense. I also love the way when he pulls a player out of the game for a mistake or poor defense or whatever error, he usually takes the time to talk to them about what/why before they reach their seat. Not many head coaches do that enough, I think.

Watching Milwaukee literally not guard Lipsey on the perimeter made me realize we might have some serious issues in B12 play if no one respects his shooting.

*Edit - I just went and looked at his HS stats, he shot 22% from 3 his season year. Not ideal

Still at my preseason guess, which isn't a specific option in the poll (Bubble First Four), so I chose on bubble, miss tournament.

More than 1 win at PK swings me to "last 4 byes." (and a couple of notches higher if ISU somehow wins the thing).
