Didn't see this posted yet. There are currently two females left in the world, the daughter and granddaughter of the male who just died. Neither are able to reproduce naturally due to significant inbreeding. Artificial insemination followed by surrogacy in a southern white rhino is the only hope to keep the species going. And that's never been done before. Sad day.

Poaching of animals for their horns, tusks, pelts, etc. is just deplorable. Hopefully nature adapts and evolves. I believe a few years ago I saw a documentary stating that some of the African elephants nowadays are born and end up not developing tusks. Seems evolution/natural selection is playing out right in front of our eyes. I found an article about it:

Too bad they weren't polo ponies, that dude in South America would have cloned a whole herd of them.

Sounds like they are still trying to get the process right before artificial insemination. Hope we can have a breakthrough.

Seeing the Rhinos at the Blank Park Zoo is worth the price of admission. They are amazing creatures.

Go listen to the last Rogan podcast with Bret Weinstein. There are some wild evolutionary things with certain species that are so interesting and also sad. There's one on humans that should be very self-evident but I've never thought about it.

The current extinction rate driven by humans is 1,000 times the background extinction rate. This ratio does not take into account extinction events through history, so maybe we are an extinction event.

That was a good listen. Thanks for the heads up.
