He got passed over because Snyder didn't want him in the seat. Classic case of the football coach being the most powerful man on campus.

in the athletics department. K-State guy. Should have followed John Currie but was passed over due to internal politics. Anyway, he's off to Florida. Real brain drain going on in Manhattan presently as a result of Currie taking Tennessee job.

I think Laird was at ISU one year - worked under Bruce Van de Velde. I had occasion to run across him several times. He is one sharp, impressive individual. He also said playing for Bill Snyder shaped his life.
From what I know about Gene Taylor (not much) - don't understand bringing him in. I agree with you - losing someone like Veatch is big for K-State.
I frankly would have no problem for Veatch to be ISU's next AD.
