College sports have all this money pouring into them and they are going to spend it until they are broke. Not to mention increasing ticket prices, donation requests and NIL requests.

This wreaks of desperation, all flash, no substance. K State lacked depth and mental toughness at times last year. This move doesn't fix that, it probably makes it worse.
My impression of Hawkins is that he is a finesse player that can win you a game or two when he's on, but you'd better have someone else on the team willing to do the dirty work that shows up every day.
Best case scenario for them, they just added a Momcillovic-type versatile player. Worst case, they added an inconsistent chucker that hurts their defense. They've spent too much to not build the team around him, but I don't think he's the type of player that can carry a team through the Big 12 meatgrinder.

@#$^
This could be one of those things that blows up spectacularly in K-State's faces. Paying one player $2 million dollars is surely not going to create any discontent in the locker room.
Coleman is an acquired taste... he's Very Online and tends to freestyle or do crazy things on the court.

I think he's a pretty good teammate, if things go south the fans are going to sour on him real quick.

Two million dollars for ******* 12 and 6?
well that was against a very good defense.

I would think splitting that up 3 ways would get you a whole lot more.
I think that's the tack Illinois took this offseason. (will take a while to pay off)

Fans at least would have loved to have had him back, but if he wanted to go get a record payday I think we're happy for him but there's a mutual and amicable split.

Goes to show that even our most closest "peers" geographically and culturally are way ahead of us in the NIL space. Obviously not because people aren't trying - Brent is doing a phenomenal job - it's just a very steep mountain for ISU.

12/6 is what he averaged last season. I doubt every defense was all that great.

So because ISU hasn't spent $2 million on an above-average player, that means we're way behind K State NIL-wise? How much have our current players received total? I'm guessing you don't know.
No, I'm not saying that is the definitive proof. ISU's collective brought in $2mil total to spend over this past year with a goal of $4mil for this next year. That's substantial money. But that pales in comparison to many schools people would call equal to us.

I keep saying - you can find it said 100 times by me. We can't pay a single player $250K to come here, but we can offer $50K, playing time, development, culture, and a path to the NBA or NFL. We've been good at keeping players by offering just enough to keep them content financially knowing they have a better path to long-term income by staying here. And some just want to stay regardless.

Omaha was a great example - we gave him about 15-20% of what some other schools were offering and he had to fight his handlers to come here because he thought it was the right choice and gave him the best path forward. Obviously that didn't work out, but it shows we have ways we can compete without matching dollar for dollar. But that gets harder every extra dollar our peers bring in.

TJ's first year we lost out on 2 transfers that were nearly locked in before they got offered huge $$$ we couldn't compete with. Had we gotten those 2 scorers, we likely go at least another round in the tournament.
