I'm sorry, but I don't know why lowering the stadium capacity, when the football program is in a position that we all dreamed for 10, 20, 30, 40 years ago just for the sake of aesthetics when the stadium is empty, should be on anyone's wish list. Not an option, just like a practical wish list for the future.
Reducing capacity by putting in chairback seating isn't about improving empty stadium aesthetics, it is about improving comfort and experience of attending a game. I would pay more for that creature comfort and would be more likely to attend in person for a real seat. It could drive revenue.I'm sorry, but I don't know why lowering the stadium capacity, when the football program is in a position that we all dreamed for 10, 20, 30, 40 years ago just for the sake of aesthetics when the stadium is empty, should be on anyone's wish list.
I never understood the obsession with the bleachers. Sure it'd be nice but most every game we're pretty full so no one ever sees them. And if a recruit doesn't come here because of the seating in the stadium then I don't think we wanted them lol.Who cares what it looks like empty?
You can always rent a suite.Reducing capacity by putting in chairback seating isn't about improving empty stadium aesthetics, it is about improving comfort and experience of attending a game. Painting or replacing benches wouldn't impact capacity, while the benefit would primarily be appearance and I agree something like this is largely pointless and shouldn't be a priority.
Why do you presume to know more about the need for more suites than Pollard does? I'm not even debating your argument that suites have one of the highest ROI of any investment. But if there is no demand, then theoretical ROI is irrelevant.People were saying the exact same thing when they were talking about bowling in the south end zone. "when we start selling out every game, then it will be time to bowl the end zone in." They were wrong, bowling in the stadium has increased the look and feel of the stadium. Increasing the size of the press box would do the same to the stadium. More enhanced seating and suites would bring in more money into the program, while also improving the look of the stadium.
Since you oppose the press box, what do you suggest should be the next improvement to JTS?
You forgot the hot tubs...Okay, so I think I have all my shopping list now, thanks!
When I win the next billion dollar Powerball, I write a check to Jamie for:
A. Bowling in the NEZ. That’s my pet project.
B. Third deck on the east side. Because apparently CPR wants it.
C. New press box.
D. Additional luxury boxes.
E. Entire stadium with fade resistant bucket seats.
…and all that comes out of my pocket, so no investment by the AD, and any ensuing income is pure gravy.
I just want my own luxury box out of it.
Sound fair? That’s my bucket list.
Am I forgetting anything?
I don't know more than Pollard, why do you even suggest that? Suites bring more money into the program, its that simple. As for the demand, again, people were saying the same thing about bowling in the south end zone. Why do you presume to know more about the need for more suites than Pollard does? I feel like there’s a couple votes for hot tubs. Done! You forgot the hot tubs...
It would be great to see renderings.Speaking of improvements. I think the new speakers sounded awesome on Saturday. Maybe a little loud at times, but overall, the sound is much crisper. Is it true that next year, JTS will be receiving new video board displays on both sides of the stadium? Does anyone know if the ribbon board is being replaced? I have seen some discussion but haven't seen renderings of what it will look like.
Yes, new video boards next year. They will be the same structures, but span the whole length.Speaking of improvements. I think the new speakers sounded awesome on Saturday. retractable sun shade for east side . . . .Okay, so I think I have all my shopping list now, thanks!

Going forward the program is going to need money more than ever, enlarging the press box would allow that to occur. In business, you have to spend money to make money down the road, its really that simple.
On top of this, the more realistic (and cheaper) option for more suites, if there was demand for it, would be to put them on the east side at the top of the lower section, like on the west side. This isn't really true. We were filling up capacity fairly regularly before building the SEZ, and there was (and still is) also a market for more premium (but not suite-level) space. We've seen no indication there's a shortage of suite space.
Again though, once you get to talking adding more suites on the west side, you're looking at a much more expensive project overall. You can't just pop in a new press box. You'd have to reconfigure the entire west concourse to have room for supports. And premium seating way up and back where the press box is may not be in as much demand anyway.
Realistically if you had a necessity for more premium space, you're wrapping it into a much larger (and much more expensive) project that would likely mean a wholesale redo of the upper west side. In an ideal world this would mean tearing down the upper deck and existing suites, and then building a structure with more than one level of premium options, and then moving the 'upper deck' general seating above that. This would also add an upper concourse which would offer more space for concessions\restrooms which the stadium really does not have enough capacity for currently)
Of course, given this would likely cost in the range of hundreds of millions of dollars, and given we can't even get the much less expensive hilton improvements off the ground, its almost pointless to be talking about any of this unless a major donor is out there ready to write a big check. Given the astronomical costs, the payback period would be almost infinite.
Yeah, I could see that. Though there may be more demand for it to be more like the JT Club than suites, and the SE corner may be more difficult with the student section there. But that would definitely seem like something that would be done before the west side.On top of this, the more realistic (and cheaper) option for more suites, if there was demand for it, would be to put them on the east side at the top of the lower section, like on the west side.
How about we fix the NEZ videoboard? I would hope that's under warranty since half the pieces have been faded since inception. Saw somebody fixing them during the game, which seems like literally the only inconvenient time to do it.
