It’s painfully obvious, though, how happy I am here. This is different from other job

I will make a bold statement, as long as we continue to increase our attendance and donations, CPR will never leave.

I think these things are key for him. He's beaten the "All in" motto to death, and then he's beat it some more. When you're that dedicated to being all in, you get disappointed when others don't reciprocate. I think the biggest thing for CPR is that his fans care and show support in what ever way they can.

I hope JP sticks around for a long time too. CPR is his guy for the long haul. The only way I could see CPR leaving in the short term is if JP moves on, and the next AD wants to rebuild the department with his own hires.

Ergo:

It would behoove us to do everything possible to keep both of them.

A good reason for our success is who I am and where I came from. That’s not to sound arrogant. It’s just the truth ... I know this job very well.”
This quote gets to the essence of why CPR is succesful here and why he may just stay for a long time. He is very smart and gets it. He realizes that he possess some unique attributes that make him successful here and it doesn't necessarily translate success to other coaching jobs.

Look at Rich Rod. Michigan has some innate advantages over most of the college world but he couldn't succeed even though he was very good at WVU. It's not because he couldn't coach but each job has their quirks. CPR realizes that his unique skill set that allows him to succeed here may not succeed at other places.

In other words maybe CPR is made for ISU and ISU is made for CPR.

I think I may have a man crush on him.

Hansen: For now, home is sweet for Iowa State's Paul Rhoads | The Des Moines Register | DesMoinesRegister.com

Great honest read replete with homage to CPR's potential to take on challenges away from home (AMES) with a "but why would he" flavor.

Why not Iowa State!? I know WBB is not Big Money (negative cash fow actually) and Fennelly's success has him nowhere but here. Why not Rhoads forever? Why not pay him a bundle (but noway the highest of D-1 FB coaches). If Idaho can attract talent; if Nebraskagolia can attract talent; if the U0fI can attract bodies as it has in the past...WHY NOT IOWA STATE? Jack Trice died believing in the potential greatness of my school and as of yet we have only partly lived up to that belief.

Why not here with Rhoads?

For some odd reason I'm not as confident as all of you. I guess being an ISU with the constant kicks to the nads I'm very fearful that he will leave. Of course I have no reasoning. All signs point to him being here for quite some time. I just cannot convince myself that after the whole Chizik charade. Every time I see his name rumored for a job I cringe. We CANNOT lose this one.

I love Paul Rhoads. He's the source of some of the greatest moments in my life, and I know - it's just a game. It just means that much to me.

Are we related somehow? I could not have said it any better.

Being a Cyclone defines me as a person. Growing up in Des Moines with a family very connected to ISU, attending games from a very young age, experiencing the wonders of our first bowl win, an Elite 8 appearance, conference championships, and the like during my childhood (age 8-13)...that makes a huge impression on you. I feel so fortunate not to have been young during the early '80s when both the FB and BB programs were awful. Sorry if that was you...I just feel like it wouldn't have been the same.

My friends used to debate Iowa v. ISU every day when I was a kid, and the best part is that we were mostly good enough to measure up to the Hawks in the big sports. The atmosphere at JTS and Hilton was so incredible - 2000 BB vs. Oklahoma State (Fizer "one more year"), 2005 FB vs. Iowa and Colorado (with a potential North title on the line), winning the last Big 8 BB championship against KU, winning the Big XII in 2000, among many other games...these experiences happened at an age for me that captured my imagination. There is no way I could ever have gone to a college other than Iowa State...more than being an American, or even an Iowan, I feel defined by being a Cyclone. And, right now, I am so proud to be one! I am truly ALL IN with CPR, CFH, CBF, Christy (planning on attending the tourney this weekend), and Jamie. Having graduated just last spring from ISU and fulfilling a lifelong dream, I think it's possible that there has never been a better time to be a Cyclone.

And yes, I WAS THERE at "the game"! Best Cyclone memory of my life...we've had other great wins, but I haven't always been there in person. Storming the field and hearing "Sweet Caroline" is something I'll never forget. That night will probably rank in the top 10 list of memories throughout my whole life. It showed me that we CAN do something great if we work hard for it. It was almost as if all the cheering, money spent on tickets, and time given to supporting ISU was channeled from over 50,000 people in that stadium to will us to victory. Regardless of what happened with OSU that day (horrible tragedy), we deserved that win...and the best part is that we didn't just back into it - we truly earned it.

My adrenaline is pumping right now just thinking about the game! Am I a bit crazy? Yeah, but that's what comes with being a Cyclone. I hope CPR is our coach for life, and if he is, I expect that we WILL win the Big XII, and we WILL play in a BCS bowl game during my lifetime. It WILL happen - there's no way it can't with CPR at the helm. I trust him that much, and I feel so confident about his desire to stay here and make us into a winner. He can be a legend here, and he is the fit we've been looking for through all these years!

If we still want Rhoads as coach at that point, he'll probably have a much bigger stick than the new AD.

Re: It’s painfully obvious, though, how happy I am here. This is different from other

Exactly. He's not going to firmly say he's not leaving at any point as it removes any contract leverage he has.

I think he's ours for sure until one of the big names steps up and throws him a big number, and at that point who knows. There arent that many of those openings though in a year.

There's a handful (less than 10) of jobs I can see being at the echelon where he would consider leaving Ames. 2 of them (Texas and OU) are in our league, so I think it's safe to say he would never go there. One of the others (tOSU) just got filled, and that guy will probably be there for a long while.

Notice that Hansen avoided mentioned how much KF makes (>3x as much as CPR), so as not to bring any scrutiny against Iowa.

Wait a second....how is that possible?

All I know is that it's terrible that we had a nice article with a singular focus on our outstanding football coach. Hansen clearly should have spent serious time comparing him, and especially his salary, to Ferentz, since that is what a feature article spotlighting an individual is all about. Or something.

With that we know what to do.

Gotta pay the man! Seeing your name at the bottom of the pay scale of the Big 12 coaches will get old (if it already hasn't).

If we were ready to give Chizik a raise and extension after his 5-19...where is Rhoads?
