If it's not true, I believe the University should release a statement so Sims' name can be cleared and I hope the Rag will publish it too.

Just talked to a reliable source that works on campus it has to do with theft, but the search warrant turned up nothing, there is also someone else involved that may be the guilty party, but this individual is not an athlete.

Ding. Ding. Ding.

Lets assume it was the other party or that there was no finding of wrongdoing, that is why you need to be careful about prematurely identifying someone in public.

Put yourself in his shoes if he is found to have done nothing wrong.

The Rag isn't going to publish that. However they might try to publish an article that in some other way smears ISU's nose in it.

+1
It's really scary that now you don't need to be guilty, just be accused and then your life or career can be done in such a short time.

I have to say that it would have seemed strange to me that a guy who stands an excellent chance of drawing a big, fat NFL paycheck a year from now were doing anything aside from taking care of business for the next six (or twelve) months.

I agree. However, thats the world we live in now. Twitter, facebook, message boards, etc. Might as well start getting used to it.

Same argument could be made about all of the athletes who are being investigated for accepting money or gifts from agents right now. It is the society that we live in Aclone.

Probably because he was charged with disorderly conduct not assault
Okay do disorderly conduct then. I bet you get the same results. FWIW- Plenty of articles in the Gazette and Press-Citizen when you Google assault.. Just saying

I'm referring to the Des Moines tabloid running a story identifying an ISU athlete based on nothing more then internet messages and confirmation of a possible event by the athletic department.

Responsible journalists would have held this persons name from the public until there was something more concrete to report.

This makes zero sense. The PC and the DMR are owned by the same company, share resources, and often stories. The DMR also maded dozens of public record requests around the case. That seems at odds with the DMR turning it's head.
Just saying you need to look at the number of reports and timing. Yes, I know they are the same company. I question why the Rag didn't cover it as well as their sister paper.

Enough with the Hawkeye comparisons. It has nothing to do with this case. Good lord people.

Is there a way posters would have to prove they aren't completely incompetent before they could post? 50 practice posts to prove your value to the conversation?

I agree. Some ISU nerd needs to create a poster screening program for this site.

I can be the judge. So can you.

Threads like these often get watered down with dumb posters making dumb posts. That is fact.

Every single member on this board has made their fair share of stupid posts. I know that I have. It is a message board and to expect anything more then that is just setting yourself up to be let down. We already have the message board police on here (mods) so we don't have any need for amateur hour. Just saying...
