Gee whiz!
Go back and read what you wrote. You mean a head coach in his 16 year still does not know how to use the talent that he has?
Dude, think about that and what it really says about him.
They are built to win over the long haul..over the course of a 12-13 game season in a run-heavy conference. I think he's made the conscious decision to sacrifice the ability to match up with some schemes outside the conference simply due to the fact that Iowa rarely faces a team that runs an offense like ISU does..outside of Northwestern or sometimes Indiana. Iowa's limitations are very similar to those of ISU. Both schools are in a sparsely populated state that lacks the recruiting numbers that the powers in their respective conferences have. Both schools share the same geographic and weather disadvantages but Iowa has simply won more games than ISU and beaten some very good teams during Ferentz's tenure. I do think Hawkeye fans wish he'd adapt his approach a bit when it comes to certain years, because every few years, he does field a team with the talent to move the ball at will against most teams. It's clear he values execution, field position and ball security more than explosiveness which is typical of a man who spent 10 years in the NFL. Thats my only explanation for it and I don't have to like it either. I'd like to see him adapt a little bit too, but he's stubborn. There's no such thing as the perfect coach.
