After 38 years of being a University of Minnesota fan, I've changed my allegiance. I'm now an Iowa State University fan! I can no longer take the continual failures of Minnesota Gopher sports. Hell, we aren't even good in Hockey anymore! I grew up and still live in Southern Minnesota, so Iowa State is the next closest D1 school to where I grew up. It's only natural that I become a Cyclone fan. I look forward to conversing with you all in the future! Go Cyclones, Twins and Vikings!

Welcome!

One thing we learned when we lived in the cities. ISU and MN fans do have at least one thing in common - nobody likes the hawkeyes! :biglaugh: When I'd meet new people and they'd comment on our accent, I'd quickly clarify that I was an ISU grad.

Yes...Hawkeyes suck! I grew up in Austin, MN. There were a mixture of Cyclones, Hawkeyes, Huskers and Gophers fans there. The Hawkeyes and Huskers fans were absolutely obnoxious. I wish I would've come to my senses sooner and become a Cyclone fan!

I think ISU has that in common with EVERY school in America...

i think just one year of success in football has brought back a whole slew of cyclone fans. I see a lot more cyclone gear around than I used to and yes, the gameday atmosphere is a lot better.

Just look at the enthusiasm for the next few years!

I don't have anything to add to the topic of this thread, just won't stand for any thread about ISU football to have 666 replies. That could never be a good thing...

Your changing to ISU to get away from that. JK :jimlad: Seriously welcome aboard, but you better not be a jinx. :jimlad:

Austin, eh?

I grew up just south of Adams, on the Iowa side of the line. Between Stacyville and McIntire, IA, if you know those towns. We went to Austin all the time for groceries, and what not when I was a kid.

I still think it's funny how little Minnesotan's care about the Gophers, but Iowans are just rabid about college football.

I'm doing my part...I just bought four ISU shirts!

I think you should sit down and watch tape of the 2004 and 2005 Football seasons, just so you fully know what you're getting into. ISU sports is some serious heartbreak. The biggest (only?) difference between us and the Gophers, is a much more passionate fan base. If that's what you're looking for, then welcome aboard. Where the Gophers just kind of always underachieve, they don't have quite the penchant for ripping your still beating heart out of your chest in spectacular fashion.

Small world! I'm very familiar with that area. In Minnesota, I think everything centers around pro sports. People have just lost interest in the Gophers because it isn't very often we have good teams to watch. Although I'm a Vikings fan, I still like college football better. I also prefer college basketball over the NBA. I think it's pretty cool how everyone rallies around college teams in the states that do not have pro sports (i.e. Iowa and Nebraska). Colleges play with more heart and emotion than the pros, that's why I like them better.

Yeah, I definitely like College more than pro, but I was sort of hoping for the Gophs' sake that the new Stadium would really bring a collegiate feel back. I was sick of CFB at the Dome. Just not right, especially when it would be half filled with Hawk fans.

I don't think though that College and Pro have to be mutually exclusive. Look at the following for Gopher Hockey and the Wild. Both draw well, and have a lot of passion behind them from their local fan bases. Some places have both popular college and pro teams (Michigan, Texas, and Pennsylvania come to mind). I do think if the Gophers were better, people would get behind it a lot more.

You have to remember, I'm a Vikings fan. Serious heartbreak is what we're known for! Ha ha! Yes, I like the passion the fans have.

Agreed...it's been years since the Gophers have had a run of good teams. In basketball their last good run was pretty much deleted due to NCAA violations!

You won't be disappointed!!

Well...wait.. yes, you definitely are bound to be disappointed. I have to retract my last statement. However, I hope all-out depression will cease and desist for Cyclone Football...
Basketball, thats another story...
