While it’s fun to be ranked, there’s still a lot of preseason hype and single game overreactions built into the current rankings. Remember last year when Colorado beat TCU and jumped to be ranked around #17? Clearly Colorado wasn’t worthy of being a ranked team last year

Point being is rankings are much more meaningful come late October/early November. Just keep winning and these rankings will take care of themselves
But being ranked early can only help in getting higher later in the year. Yes, early rankings can be a bit of fools gold but it absolutely helps to be ranked.

Best case scenario for the Big 12 is that Iowa State and Utah are undefeated and ranked in the top 10 when they play.
Rising left the game yesterday with an injury to his throwing hand. Utah not sure if he’ll miss time or not

I think we'll be double digit favorites, or close to it, until we face WVU. Who knows where we'll be ranked when we face them. Setting up to potentially be a crazy second half of the season.

Love that we are ranked but AP and coaches polls mean nothing. Playoff rankings are all that matters...and no playoff rankings are not influenced by these polls.

Absolutely loved how ISU played in the 2nd half. Orange is a bad man. I would not want to line up against him ever.

I disagree. Public perception will influence the committee. Having a number by your name gets you talked about more and gives you more media coverage. It matters whether it is explicitly listed in the selection criteria or not.

All that matters is Ws and who you beat. Best trams with a winning record and you are better off. @cfbmatrix (Dave Bartoo) on Twitter figured out the formula early on. CW used to have him on KXNO. Bartoo would nail the rankings before the committee announced them. So again, wins and who you beats matters. A quality win is beating a team over .500.

Usually the AP voters change their votes based on the new CFB rankings, and not the other way around.

How can you say the AP ranking doesn't influence the CFP rankings? They start months earlier. I bet the vast majority of the CFP top 15 rankings are withing a couple of spots of their AP ranking when they are first released.

You mean the AP rankings change based on wins and losses when there’s more data points to go off of? People are acting like pre season polls greatly influence the CFP rankings.

I seem to remember Iowa State going from unranked to #6 one year(while losing to a G5 to start). Could have moved higher if they won the Big12 Championship. I also believe the CFB had them ranked higher than the AP did, then the AP followed suit.
