This is a lot of eyeballs watching Iowa put a beating on ISU! I mean that game was over before it hit the 4th qtr.

Congrats on winning your "Super Bowl". Funny how Iowa fans don't care at all about playing ISU, yet their fanbase cannot stop talking about that game. One game, non-con no less. Both teams with much more important conference games on the slate. And yet, here we are.

I will say that those ratings are great and shows that schools from a rural area certainly can draw eyeballs. So that's the only good thing from an ISU fan's perspective.

Not much to objectively disagree with. This guy's not an Iowa fan. Most talented ISU team in its history, most anticipated ISU season in its history. ESPN Gameday in Ames and the eyes of the nation watching against #10 ranked in-state rival. We all know the result. There's lots of season left so if they regroup and win the Big 12 who knows, but that was a bad and big loss.

And when has it happened for Iowa's program really...? Last outright Big Ten title was 1985 and before that was 1958. Iowa State finished alone atop the Big 12 standings last year and lost the Big 12 title game to OU. Basically Iowa State did something the Hawks haven't done since 1985 (finish atop the regular season alone). We just happen to have the tiebreaker of a conference championship game while the years Iowa was co-champions post 2000 ('04, '02) they lost to the team they tied with (Michigan 30-17 in '04) or didn't play the team the tied with (Unbeaten and National Champion Ohio State in '02). Iowa State has also won a premier bowl game (BCS/NY6) more recently than Iowa with last year's Fiesta Bowl, and in fact both programs have one of those victories apiece (Iowa '09 Orange Bowl) in the last 30 years basically (Iowa won the '82 Peach Bowl).

So again, if Iowa State has never been there (and they haven't), Iowa really hasn't either in modern college football. The Hawks have definitely been a lot closer for sure, but still have never done it.

This is an excellent post. It was a big blow to the season no matter what any ISU fan tells you. We were talking potential CFP this year if the cards fell right. Well that included a win against Iowa, so that CFP talk is almost closed already. Now to your last point, if for some reason ISU would win out, they would more than likely be in the CFP, as that would include a road and neutral site win over OU and the only loss being to what is more than likely going to be a top-10 or dare I say potential unbeaten CFP-bound Iowa team. What I watched on Saturday were two pretty evenly-matched teams with one (Iowa) having far superior special teams and winning the turnover battle 4-0. The fact it was only a 10-point win with a +4 in turnovers is all you need to know that Iowa's offense is struggling right now, and if their defense doesn't get a bunch of turnovers they will be very beatable. Petras is going to have to go win a game at some point this season when the defense isn't getting pick 6's or scoop and scores.
