Not exactly sure.
Dumb. He created it. It’s a voluntary thing he started. If he thinks it needs to be changed he can do that. It has no power.
It’s only purpose is to advise KF and staff.
It was something that HB advised doing and came out of several members (quite a few still retained) of the staff being fingered in the report. Was a way to give black players a voice, apparently that voice is not needed per Kirk anymore. He got his extension, raise, and buyout.

Wasn’t it something mentioned the program should do per the investigative report? So although it wasn’t mandatory, it was requested due to the findings of a discriminatory culture.. The culture that Kirk Ferentz built.. And then Kirk dissolves the committee because he didn’t like it..

The optics of it don’t look good.

Like going to the casino, betting on the roulette wheel, losing, and then demanding you want your money back because you lost. Kirk did it to CYA but didn’t like when they actually starting requiring larger improvements.

Like everything else following June 2020, it’s been done for pr purposes. Kirk can retire and not have to worry about anything, but that doesn’t help Brian.

So Kirk jumped through a few hoops to appease folks because he knew people were watching.

then they had a big season, and as it went on they cared less and less. Now with the contract extension, nothing else matters

There was a new position created in the AD. A diversity an inclusion director.
I have no idea if it was requested but it was KF who created it. If I create a advisory committee for something for my workplace, I can do with it whatever I want. Sounds like today, Porter said the coaches and KF basically implemented all of their prior recommendations. And Porter calling for KF and staff to be fired was not agreed upon it seems by any of the other committee. I don't know why he said those things. But clearly if I am getting advice on how to improve things and the committee chair thinks I shouldn't have my job, I don't know how that is going to work. It also appears the committee for some time was really just Porter because most the other members were busy with the NFL season. Doesn't seem ideal either.
Either way the point of the committee is to improve the culture. So the question is what recommendations were made and what was implemented and what is the current state of the program in regards to diversity and inclusion. I could care less about the optics of Porter being gone and the committee changing. I care what has actually been done and are the players happy with where things stand. If it has gotten better, is there a need for the committee in its current form? Or would the program be better served with a new type of committee?
Now if it hasn't gotten better that is a problem. But this recent info says nothing about that.

Yeah I don’t disagree much with what you said here. I personally don’t think Kirk should’ve been the one to call the shots on this sort of thing due to the fact that the committee is being formed mostly due to his actions/inactions. But you’re right in the fact that Kirk was the one who created it and because of that can do whatever he wants with it.

Now, I find it interesting that Porter came out and said all these things and would be intrigued if it’s because of some gripe he has against Kirk. I mean, he was appointed to that position by Kirk for a reason.

The part I do have a problem with is that Porter stated some of the Iowa coaches came to a meeting unprepared and some not even responding to questions he asked them to answer. Porter is quoted saying some coaches didn’t want to deal with it and some not wanting to because “we’re all white.” If that’s true, not good dude.

That was the precipice of the whole issue. All those guys had to do was give a simple answer.

they didn’t, because they didn’t care and know they don’t have to care.

I’m sure for Brian not telling an AA kid he looks like he’s going to go rob a store shows tremendous growth in his mind

I think you are ascribing to much authority to the advisory committee. I have a been on advisory committees in academia. They are effectively a circle jerk that accomplishes nothing. Particularly when the HB report was summarily ignored and not completely disclosed the cake was already baked. It is nice that some of the recommendations had been implemented, that said KF is going to do what he wants. He now effectively has a lifetime contract.

Since the Iowa fans, regents, and administration don't care I not going to waste my time caring about it.

No, I don’t think the committee had any authority. I think they were promised a voice as to how to move forward.

but the rift with Porter began when he saw how he summarily dismissed by the white coaches. Kirk never had any real intention to change, and the noise became too much. Told Porter he disrespected the coaches, just like when he made players apologize to Doyle.

interesting that was around the time that twins talked about how he was struggling. Hmm

Ha! I'll never forget that first morning...5 AM...and the drill sergeant comes into the dorm clapping aluminum garbage can lids together...good times!

And yes on the mentors...but even then you have to be careful about who the mentors are. It can be a rough transition...
Those first 5 days or so of week zero we’re awful.
