Injuries - the concern…

Lipsey should be on the "pitch count" during the first game. We should crush them early and rest everyone to get ready for Ole Miss. Good luck to KG. He is such a great player and kid. He did have that "killer instinct" you need to go deep in the tourney. This is a buzz kill to get the 3 see in Wisconsin, but then see this news.

Anyone else think losing Gilbert isn’t as detrimental as the national pundits are making it out to be?

I think it's a positive that ISU has played with lots of injuries so has that kind of adversity, including a limited or unavailable Gilbert.

For the 'pundits' I don't think Seth Davis watched very much Iowa State basketball and probably just checked some twitter hype from early January.

Probably? We aren’t getting the November / December Gilbert back. It seems that’s what they are describing when they talk about him. Heise has completely turned his game around over the last month. I think that lessens the blow a lot.

But there’s a lot of teams that are dealing with injuries. Gilbert is just the first to announce to not be available. There will be more IMO.

My question is if we should sit Lipsey from the start.... and only use him if he's needed? How do we know we'll even need him at all?

I hate to say it but Gilbert was hurting a lot more than he was helping in a lot of games this season. This is still a team capable of winning multiple tourney games without him.
It's leaving Iowa State with a lot less room for error. Yes, others can score and make up that part. But the reality is you replace KG's 30 minutes a game with 5 minutes from Cade Kelderman and everyone else picks up the slack. More fouls for them, more minutes for them, etc. This team can't realistically sustain another injury, for example, and Tamin is unlikely to be 100% effective as it is. It's a problem. But that's why we play the games.

And I should clarify that many on E$PN didn’t feel ISU would get to the second weekend.

I think it’s quite likely, but more so on Lipsey’s health. But losing Gilbert will limit how far this team will advance

But I’ll enjoy every moment of the tournament. Always more fun to be in it

I don't think it is devastating to our chances, but it does hurt. These guys play HARD and one less guy puts a lot more pressure on the few that are left. And add to it, Tamin will be nursing an injury.

Well, we’d have to get through an SEC team to make the second weekend. So of course ESPN doesn’t think ISU has a chance. They’re the SEC.
