I just cataloged all of my albums this afternoon (well, updated the list) and I have close to 400 albums. I'm in the process of backing them up on my computer. I'm halfway done and discovered I have 130 hours of music already. So what I want to know is, who out here has the biggest album collection?

People buy actual albums?...Or music period? I have roughly 15 days worth of music right now, 4600ish tracks. That's after a recent cleaning where I deleted the crap I never listened to.

I'm trying to tally up in my head - I'd say our household has about 600 - 800 CD's combined. I used to be the asst manager of a music store and my husband used to be a radio DJ, though, so we got lots of promos and stuff.

I personally have about 300. My wife is down to 3000 or so after selling about 800 on half.com

I accumulated alot of stuff that way too. Problem was alot of it was crap or stuff I really wasn't very into. It was just free.

My uncle and my dad both collect vinyl. I'd hate to guess at how many my uncle had before he passed away. Thousands upon thousands. All organized and cataloged.

That's what we'd get at the music store, too - crappy stuff that the labels sent out as promos. Some of it was really good (Sony and some of the indie labels would send out stuff), but a lot of it was just crap.

I have a tiny vinyl collection just accumulated through garage sales and antique shops, but it's amazing how much people have to sell - crates and crates.

How does everyone organize their CD's? Mine are mostly in boxes now because I've transferred everything to my computers/iPods, but I used to organize it by musical genre, then alphabetically by artist (mostly because that's how it was organized at the store).

Somewhere around 3,500+. Also have a handful of old 78 big band era left behind in a house that I purchased. Don't have a player for them, but keep them for nostalgic purposes. Also have around 1,500 CD's and maybe 500 cassettes. Haven't played the cassettes for years, but they are still in the collection. Have around 100 albums dubbed on reel-to-reel from back in the college days. Some are showing the effects of 30+ years of tape degradation. Bought one of the first high end ($850 back then) CD players in the early 80's - finally met it's end about 5 years ago. My wife has made the switch to Ipods and my son is into filling up hard drives with downloads. Maybe it's just a refusal to let go, but I find myself going back more and more to listening to music on the turntable. Albums have their share of drawbacks, but I still like the tone that they put out.
