Balvenie is great scotch as well.
+1 for Balvenie Double Wood. The stuff is fantastic, and most non-scotch drinkers I give it to love it. It doesn't have the odd flavors that turn some people off from many Scotchs.

Reading this thread reminds me that I need to get some more. Cheapest price I've seen is at Sams Club.

I recently received a $100 gift card from work, and have about $75 remaining on it. I would like to spend the rest on a nice bottle of whiskey. My favorites are Jack and Crown, but want to try something new. I was thinking of trying Johnnie Walker Green Label, but I like bourbon more than I like scotch, so I'm not sure if I'll go that way. Any recommendations?

Pappy Van Winkle is my personal favorite but it is hard to find anymore...

+1 for Bookers. That stuff is smoooooth! It's also over 120 proof and has a nice bite to it. I keep a bottle on hand just for sore throats, I swear by that stuff that if that high of proof alcohol can't numb up and kill whatever is in your throat then it's time to see a doctor.

If you can get your hands on some Breckenridge Bourbon you will not be disappointed. I'm not sure if it is sold in IA or wherever you are but it's the best sipping bourbon I have ever had. They have won a ton of awards in the few years they have been around.

If you're getting multiple bottles, I would suggest 2 bottles of Buffalo Trace then. I love that stuff

Elmer Lee if you can find it. Great mixer. Elijah Craig for some sipping. The Tyrconnell for a smooth Irish...again, if you can find it.
