So I guess you didn't notice it was a different post player than has been in before, a freshman who is finally coming along.
Why would I not notice.. I've been one of the main people pissed because he wasn't getting real playing time. And calling for him to start for weeks... I noticed.

I am still surprised with the angst about Prohm. He took us to the Sweet 16 with a very serious head case last year. This year, he has us in 4th place in the B12 with another serious head case. Yesterday, when Burton blew a defensive move and followed that with a bad offensive decision, he was on the bench. He came back later with more focus and resolve, and contributed more. There were other examples of strategic movement of players during the game, but that was the best one in my eyes. So, Prohm is adjusting his in-game coaching to a Power 5 conference and in my mind, there will be more to come.

We have seen Solomon Young evolve faster as a player than many expected. Clearly, Prohm can develop players. I can hardly wait to see that guy in his junior and senior years; he could be a real stud. We are also seeing Jackson develop as well, which is critical for next year.

Finally, in my mind, the best endorsement of Prohm as a coach was Monte's returning for his senior year. No way that happens unless Monte, and the people around Monte, think another season with Prohm has something to offer.
One thing Prohm is getting more respect as this season wears down.

Is this the official unofficial post-game thread from OU?

I made my first trip to Hilton in almost a decade and really enjoyed it. Not raucous by any means but it didn't need to be so no complaints. Even a calm day has a high sound volume and a unique vibe in that building.

Was great to see a nice win, and I don't care what OU's record is/was: any win is good right now.

The crowd seemed to be in much approval for Young starting and for his play. Even Morris found him on the roll of their 'go-to'. Sounds like it's the plan now, so hopefully Prohm sticks with it, and maybe hopefully finds more to do with him than standing at the block or setting a screen or two.

Was fun to be in a sea of Cyclone fans for the first time in a long time and I hope to get to another game sooner than later.

Young had actually sealed off his guy and was open. That's why he got the ball. If he does that again he will get the ball again.

He's open often. Not as open as that particular roll, but there's definitely a chance for a pass to him in motion more than he gets it.

Love his shot from 10-15 too.

Being there live, I got a better feel for the flow of the game. Monte and Burton both called for everyone to clear out yesterday a few times when there wasn't much there to clear out for. Not sure if I've been able to tell that on TV.

It seemed to me, but I have no stats to back this up, that when Solomon was in the game yesterday, he did a great job challenging shots off dribble penetration and I would bet that while he was in the game yesterday, OU's shooting percentage was significantly lower than when he was out. If he can add a few more rebounds and mirror yesterday's point production in our remaining games, we will be an even tougher out for the teams we will see the remainder of the year. From my lens, that's more than serviceable for a freshman big.

If anyone has it I'd like to know what our team +\- was with Solomon on the floor vs without.

+19.

DJ was +18. WB was +22

Start all 3? :)

Unless they're trying to reserve his energy for defense by having him stand on the block eating popcorn, let Young flash out for short jumpers. Looks like his strength and I'd think it spreads the defense out if he's consistent with it. Also makes the pick and roll make more sense and less predictable.

Where were all these posters for Fred in his 2nd year? McDermott must not have liked to recruit cause he left Hoiberg even less. I'm not faulting Prohm for not getting a guy like Royce, but he just needed 1 serviceable forward. Just 1, and serviceable, not all American. Hopefully Solomon keeps coming along. He had a very nice game yesterday. His improvents increase this teams ceiling a lot.

They need to find a way to hide him on defense or something (really difficult, obviously) because if he continues to start, first thing any coach is going to do is go after him and make him foul. Pretty sure Kruger went that route yesterday. Was glad to see Young still be pseudo-aggressive and confident.

Thanks for posting! That was a really impressive finish by Young on that pick and roll. He made the catch, slid by the potential charge and made the bucket look a lot easier than it actually was. To me, it just seems like he shows a lot of instincts that are hard to teach.

Any freshman big is going to commit a few fouls. I hope Holden comes back strong and can give solid backup minutes.

I think the most excited the crowd got yesterday was after his mini-scoring spurt. He looks more comfortable the longer he's in, and as long as he doesn't get into foul trouble or get lost a bunch, leave him in.

Even south west Eastern Montana tech would be able to get their posts a few easy points a game. This team not only doesn't try get get big men involved, but they seem to intentionally ice them out of the game.

I was at the Sukup the other day and they were working on that.

Someone please tell CSP that he needs to keep his tongue in his month during the game! He is going to lose recruits due to looking like an idiot. I'm sure it's his nervous tick, but geesh, it seems like every time they show him on TV that tongue is out of the box and wandering...

In B12 play, he leads the league in Stl% and is 5th in Blk%. He has incredibly quick hands and long arms on defense. I think he gets a bad rap because he looks nonchalant out there, doesn't slap the floor, and can get caught flat-footed once in a while. I'm just not sure he's quick enough laterally to be a great perimeter defender.

I think Deonte baits teams and anticipates what they will do. When he's right, he makes some incredible plays. When he's wrong, he's way out of position.

Burton is excellent at anticipating in the lane. I have seen him on half a dozen occasions slap the ball out of a player's hands going up to the rim. If he really concentrated - really worked at defending, like Chris Babb or Ron Bayless used to - he could be an exceptional defender. His gifts are truly impressive.
