If they play this crap style of ball. And it wasn't only catering to the hoiberg seniors that made the team this hard to watch and it was just bad coaching yes I'll be over prohm.

lol it's crap style because it's different. I don't care what type of style we play as long as there are wins. It's by far not all on bad coaching. The fact you believe that says enough about you and your basketball iq.

Also, Fred was being negatively recruited against with people saying he was going to leave for the NBA (which obviously was true) If he wouldn't have been interested and shot down those ideas then he could have landed pretty good recruiting classes. he also recruited really good transfers so there is that as well. Prohm has a good class so far. I think we will know pretty quick how good Prohm is because next year should be a test.

I have been very impressed with Prohm this year. I think what he has gotten out of this team has been very positive. I am not sure I always understand what he does in terms of who is on the floor, however, that is very hard to judge. We have been in every game even when we are playing poorly. When we play well, we are almost impossible to beat. When playing well depends on shooting from outside, it is pretty hard to expect perfect results all the time. We don't have great inside players. The best is Burton, and that in itself shows a great weakness in the team.

If Prohm can recruit, he will do well, and therefore I say we get behind him, because when the fan base is behind the coach, it is easier to recruit.

Someone please tell CSP that he needs to keep his tongue in his month during the game! He is going to lose recruits due to looking like an idiot. I'm sure it's his nervous tick, but geesh, it seems like every time they show him on TV that tongue is out of the box and wandering...

No it's crap style because it was crap style.. Notice in the OU game they made a real effort to try and get the posts involved. Coach and players took some steps in the right direction last night, Think they caught the drift. You can't win games consistently by only taking jump shots it's pretty simple to figure out... Shuv that right up your giant "basketball IQ".

The problem that Fred's recruiting was causing was that it was creating a roster that was mainly juniors and seniors.

We would be graduating almost the entire contributing roster in a 2 year stretch.

We see the problems that it caused this year since our half our front court is 5th year seniors, a freshman, and undersized Burton. And since the staff missed on Holden, we see the ripple effects it creates.

I understand that Fred brought it talent. But Fred would have been dealt the same issue Prohm has. And no guarantee he would have hit home runs again in the transfer market. Fred could have ended up with another Anthony Booker, Edozie, or Holden.
I agree. That "market" was changing as others caught on. Fred was an "early adopter" but there was no guarantee that he would have continued to have success with grad transfers or sit-outs.

I think that is a player mentality. I've been searching on Google but can't find an article but I remember a McKay quote from his junior year right when he was able to start playing and he was saying how it is hard to get Monte's trust on lobs because Monte values the ball so much.

Now think about all the times Holden has caught the ball and not gone up hard and gotten stripped or blocked early in the year. Same goes for Young. I have a feeling our PG doesn't have complete trust in those guys to risk the turnover that might happen.
Saw yesterday something I have not seen all year. On a pick and roll Monte passed to Young who was able to score in the paint. Maybe it's the ultimate compliment to Young.

This is my view too. I was shocked when that pass went in. It's a work in progress though. There were other times a pass wasn't made inside and it wasn't just Monte. If that can ben ramped up just a bit going forward it could make a real difference.

Im tired of people talking about Fred....The reason we have little talent at the 4 and 5 spot this year and a team that consists almost entirely of Seniors or freshman is Fred Hoiberg...He hated recruiting and left ISu at a terrible time. After all the support and love this fan base and town has given him to just abandon ship at a pretty bad time to find a new HC, sorry but tired of hearing about Fred. He had a lifetime job, making decent money, in a town that treated him like a God and left that to go coach a team at least I knew was set up to fail in NBA and it is. I feel bad for Prohm actually...He's a good guy who seems to run a tight ship and a clean program and doesnt let players run the program, unlike someone else before him and some fans on here and other sites and twitter want to rip on Prohm. People are going to find out real quick just how much they should apprecaite having Prohm if he leaves soon.

Prohm is going to have a great one in Wiggington and another solid player in Lewis. However, lets not get carried away with rankings because they don't take into consideration grad transfers.

Royce White, Will Clyburn and Deandre Kane would have all been the equivalent of a 5 star one-and-done.

The high school route offers a long-term consistency but I'm not sure the talent is better...just a different route.

Clyburn and Kane would not have been considered 5 star when they committed to us. Kane probably after the season, but that's not how rankings work.

People who dog on Hoiberg for his recruiting are clueless. He is two years removed from the University and we are still winning at a high level off of his players (Morris, Thomas, Long, Burton). You are crazy if you think we wouldn't have a better post presence this year if Fred was still here as well. Some people forget the Hoiberg staff laid the foundation for Terrence Lewis as well. He isn't coming to Ames next year if it isn't for Hoiberg and Otz laying the groundwork.

It's a shame really he didn't enjoy recruiting. If Hoiberg was fully entrenched in Ames with a couple bulldog recruiters the sky could have been the limit.

These are my favorite kind of posts.
Hey while you're at it, tell Coach K to get a nose job. He'll never be able to recruit with that big thing.

Especially considering the program went to 4 straight NCAA tourneys (2 big 12 tourney titles) and 1 after with his players. Barring something unforeseen it will be six straight.
Prohm wasn't left with the talent "bare" when Fred pursued his dream of the NBA. If anything last years team Niang, Nader, Morris, Thomas and Burton was as talented as any ISU has had and allowed Prohm to transition easier than most Mid major coaches making the jump to a P5 conference. Getting to the tourney and ISU ranking and exposure helped Prohm with recruits IMO and that is due to what CFH left.

Exactly, there are people rewriting history to give Prohm the benefit of the doubt. Which is fine, its what fans do. The truth is Prohm inherited one of the best situations any coach could dream of, a ready made, turn key sweet 16 team.

But this whole its Fred's fault excuse will run its course next year.

Where were all these posters for Fred in his 2nd year? McDermott must not have liked to recruit cause he left Hoiberg even less. I'm not faulting Prohm for not getting a guy like Royce, but he just needed 1 serviceable forward. Just 1, and serviceable, not all American. Hopefully Solomon keeps coming along. He had a very nice game yesterday. His improvents increase this teams ceiling a lot.

Huh... Thought I made this thread to say give the man a chance, even if you don't like everything. It's always unfortunate to see our fan base has the fans that other teams have that make you hate that team.

The Anti-Prohm crowd has taken over it now. There's nothing you can do at this point.
