Bowie is a miss in the sense had we known we'd need him to be our best post we probably would have signed another big.
Imo Holden in combination with Malou, Lard's delay, and Ernst are the misses. Well that, and not going all in on Young in October.
In one spring signing period? Not too surprising given Hoiberg missed so many times. If Fred could have added a serviceable big man for 13-14 we'd probably have at least a FF. I'm not thrilled Prohm couldn't fill the hole, but this scenrio was the most probable outcome as soon as Fred started shitting on the program in 14-15.
We're a few shots away from a great season with a limited roster from two missed recruiting cycles. That's much more encouraging about Prohm than his failed Hail Marys are incriminating.
Well, I do believe the Sweet 16 is much more than the round Fred reached in Year 1.Well if we're going to count guys that also only had one year, Hoiberg left Prohm with Niang, Nader, McKay, Monte, Matt, Burton, Naz. Which is more?
I am still surprised with the angst about Prohm. He took us to the Sweet 16 with a very serious head case last year. This year, he has us in 4th place in the B12 with another serious head case. Yesterday, when Burton blew a defensive move and followed that with a bad offensive decision, he was on the bench. He came back later with more focus and resolve, and contributed more. There were other examples of strategic movement of players during the game, but that was the best one in my eyes. So, Prohm is adjusting his in-game coaching to a Power 5 conference and in my mind, there will be more to come.
We have seen Solomon Young evolve faster as a player than many expected. Clearly, Prohm can develop players. I can hardly wait to see that guy in his junior and senior years; he could be a real stud. We are also seeing Jackson develop as well, which is critical for next year.
Finally, in my mind, the best endorsement of Prohm as a coach was Monte's returning for his senior year. No way that happens unless Monte, and the people around Monte, think another season with Prohm has something to offer.
He was forced to catch a falling knife and you're surprised there's some blood?
I'm guessing you blame your plumber for your clogs, too.I'm not going to address Hoiberg's recruiting miss 3-4 years, as it is irrelevant and more of the same ol' creating excuses for Prohm.
Prohm had more than a spring. He had all of last summer, last fall, and last spring. It was full recruiting cycle (while we were nationally ranked) he missed on and he thus far, has done the exact same this recruiting cycle. And no, its not early.
I'm guessing you blame your plumber for your clogs, too.
So you won't address the problem Prohm inherited? Will you at least address your **** rational?
You started following college basketball in 13-14, didn't you?
I have continuously addressed the problem Prohm inherited. He needed to land a serviceable post player because ISU did not have one. He did not do that. Was it due to Hoiberg not having one in the pipeline? Yes. Was it Prohm and staff's job to go get one? Yes.
Has Prohm addressed that problem thus far in the recruiting cycle? No
I don't need to address your insults as your argument is now based on pure emotion.
No it's crap style because it was crap style.. Notice in the OU game they made a real effort to try and get the posts involved. Coach and players took some steps in the right direction last night, Think they caught the drift. You can't win games consistently by only taking jump shots it's pretty simple to figure out... Shuv that right up your giant "basketball IQ".
Lets finish that thought. All of his post recruits, not just his prize, either bailed (Malou), couldn't qaulify (Lard), or were misses (Holden, Bowie). That's not a slim margin of error, that is 0 for 4 or a over a 1/4 of a roster.
He just had to hit on one.
I still don't get what people think having a "serviceable post player" would do for this team. Do they think it would have us challenging for the league title? It's obviously not the difference between making the the tourney or not, which would be the scenario where I would get a little sand in my vajajay.
If we end up a 8 or 9 seed a decent big maybe gets us tona 7 or 6 because of a couple extra conference wins? Maybe? Lots of speculation from the "constantly crying about post players" crowd.
I shutter to think what this board would look like if ISU would be going through a similar season Oklahoma and Lon Kruger are suffering through after losing their AA/POY from last year. Imagine the recruiting questions fans are blaming Lon for at this point.
It could be way worse.
Crazy thing about Burton is how insanely good he can be on D when motivated.
28.5 MPG, 2 steals per game, 1.5 blocks per game
These come in huge bunches. He's not really a 2 steals, 1.5 blocks guy, he's either way above or way below that.
Yesterday...4 blocks
Game prior...6 steals
Game prior to that 6 steals
The guy has the skills to be a crazy elite defender at the college level.
In comparison, Niang career, a taller player we all love.
29.8 MPG, .7 steals per game, .5 blocks per game
excellent post. You sound like someone who really knows what you are talking about. thank you.The thing you have to remember admit Prohm, is that he is still a very young coach. He only has 5 years of head coaching under his belt. It seems like the last thing for coaches to master is in-game strategies like substitutions, fouling, timeouts, and when to change a defense. These are the things that just take time and repetition.
Compared to a 10 year coach, there are so many situations that a younger coach has not yet even seen. As he gets older he'll experience all the different scenarios within a game, and hopefully learn the best way to handle them.
My order is:
Recruiting is the key, then it's getting the players to buy in, then it's opponent scouting, then in-game coaching.
you probably just did. Not cool, unless you are a piece of perfection?Someone please tell CSP that he needs to keep his tongue in his month during the game! He is going to lose recruits due to looking like an idiot. I'm sure it's his nervous tick, but geesh, it seems like every time they show him on TV that tongue is out of the box and wandering...
Young had actually sealed off his guy and was open. That's why he got the ball. If he does that again he will get the ball again.Saw yesterday something I have not seen all year. On a pick and roll Monte passed to Young who was able to score in the paint. Maybe it's the ultimate compliment to Young.
