From the link:
“In our postseason meetings, Jenelle and I had a discussion about her future in our program,â€￾ Johnson-Lynch said. “Over the past few weeks, Jenelle has come to the conclusion she might better reach her athletic and academic goals at another institution. We want to wish Jenelle the very best of luck. She was an important part of our program the past two years and instrumental in some great wins. We wish her nothing but the best.â€￾

If I were gonna guess I'd say she was going to lose her scholarship to somebody else next year.

I'm not sure what all went down but she's transferring to Long Beach State so maybe homesickness? She is a talented player but not the leader I would hope for in a setter. Time will tell how this will effect our program. In CJL we trust.

I'm not sure she would have lost her scholarship but probably would have lost her starting spot. Not surprising after CJL tried to switch it up in the 3rd set of the NCAA tourney game. Not something you usually want to do at that time of year.

Wow!!! Sad to see her go. I definitely didn't see that coming. I personally thought she was a talented, athletic individual with some good potential.

Very surprising. I thought a position change might have been on the table, from setter to maybe defensive specialist.

CJL was very high on her heading into this past season, that's probably why it is surprising. She really liked the athleticism. Who knows, banking on JH may have been a factor in Andy's departure.

Since we're guessing... if I had a guess it would be that JH did not improve as much as would be expected during the season. She may not have matured into the precision-oriented, decision-making setter that CJL has had since arriving. Thus there were question marks as to her future role, esp. with setter talent coming in.

Taylor Goetz gives us some experience coming back, but let's hope Harris gets a strong, fast start this spring!

Wisconsin did make it to the championship match with a freshman setter. It is possible. OK, so Carlini was also the national player of the year coming out of high school.

I think she was physical at the net for her size on offense, but she seemed to have some trouble on defense when in the front. Especially after her injury. It hurts the team from a depth perspective, but I didn't feel she was playing at a high level.

We've missed on some kids now at that position. Hope CJL can get this thing back on track. Who was the setter that transferred to Indiana lately, that may have gray-shirted or something? Did she ever pan out for them?

It's hard to recruit against some of these schools, apparently. I noticed from the UnderArmour game roster, 4-5 of the top 20 kids are going to Penn State. Nobody else was close. It's not hard to win that way.

Wow, you're good. I didn't recall that at all. Katie Gallagher. Meet the 2012-13 Cyclones: Katie Gallagher - Iowa State University Athletics Official Web Site - www.CYCLONES.com - The home of Iowa State Cyclone Sports

Here is her roster page: Katie Gallagher Bio - Indiana University Official Athletic Site

She started some matches for them. But Indiana was only 9-22 overall and 1-19 in the conference.

The Gallagher girl has the whole hover dad thing going in like Emiah Bingley. Pretty ignorant family. She split when we signed Hudson. I wonder if CJL might try to find a transfer setter herself? I don't remember her EVER signing a transfer but this season might warrant that.

With JH leaving, this opens up a scholarship for 2015. With Schaben OH and Bailey RS already committed, will CJL look to fill it with a setter to fill JH's spot or wait to see if Harris responds well in the spring? With Goetz coming into her senior year, two setters would still be on the roster this year. Or would CJL go after another Libero/DS as Berta will not come in until fall and without Kristen, back court defense could be an issue. On some nights, Nolen DS seems a bit slow to the ball. Could CJL still attract a top setter or libero with the both spots filled by incoming freshman? Any inside info out there?

I started an earlier thread about what went wrong this past year. The team did not seem to gel and never seemed to be comfortable on the floor. I wonder if this announcement has something to do with this, either a cause of or result of. Also, note that the announcement referred to not reaching athletic AND academic goals. Finally, lots of nights our passing was not the best and that made JH's job all the more difficult. But like the rest of you, in CJL I trust.

Just looked up the announcement of Monique Harris' signing in the Register.

Harris will be enrolling at Iowa State at the start of the Spring 2014 semester and will go through the spring season with the Cyclones, a first under Johnson-Lynch.
“Monique has an infectious personality that makes her a great leader and a great setter,â€￾ Johnson-Lynch stated. “She’s also a great athlete and can do a lot of things well. She can set, has a very tough jump top-spin serve, and plays great defense. Monique plans to enroll early and start practice with us this spring. It will be a great jump start to her career and we are eager to see what she will contribute.â€￾

Interesting. Starting here this semester will turn out to be a big bonus for the team.

I have a feeling Harris is the reason. CJL may think her coming in the spring will allow her to mold her the way she needs to. Who can argue with a coach who was an AA setter herself? Jenelle may have been told her role was likely to change, and that Ed to the decision.

Looks like we may be shifting from reload to rebuild for a couple of years although having the freshman setter practice this spring is a plus. The regular season and spring sessions are a little different from other sports. I assume she can play and not just practice?

Harris may be the reason but I am betting on CJL bringing in a transfer setter, most likely from another high-major program who is immediately eligible.

there was a very interesting comment on the fb page. Oh wow, just went and looked, and it's gone now!

It was something to the extent of "good, we want players who are loyal to ISU, not using it as a stepping stone to other schools."

The last name indicated that it was a relative of a star newcomer to the team last year. So I don't know if that indicates that there were some internal conflicts or what.
