Agreed.

It's a good thing that people with the facts (ADs, Presidents, BORs) are making the re-alignment decisions, and not the media.

Don't forget that ISU is also an AAU member, which is also an attractive bonus on our resume.

Definitely agree: the AAU status is a bonus, but I don't think academics really matters to anyone outside the Big 10 though. The PAC has shown its about TV $ only by taking Okla St and offering Texas Tech last year. Currently the only D1 football AAU members not in the PAC, Big 10, ACC, or SEC are

Buffalo
ISU
Kansas
Mizzou
Texas
A&M
Rutgers
Pitt
Tulane

I think its fair to say that Buffalo and Tulane aren't playing in a BCS conference anytime soon, and that KU, MU, UT, A&M, Rutgers, and Pitt will all land on their feet in the end. It'd look pretty bad to politicians if an AAU school like ISU got left out in the cold because of the money grab.

You're exactly right. Obviously the date I used when looking at bowl history is biased. And I understand tradition in the 80's or 90's gives media members today a certain perception of a school.

But does that mean that lack of tradition in the 80's or 90's mean that a school today is inferior to the others? By what criteria is the media judging schools? Part of my point is that if the media is going to throw ISU under the bus then they better be throwing a lot of other teams under the bus as well...And their perceptions of ISU aren't factually based, but based in ignorance more than anything.

I wasn't disagreeing with your point, just to make that clear. I know you want the media to think of ISU on the same playing level of those teams, but it's just not that easy. Their perception of those teams has been the same since they were young and first started following college football. What ISU has to remember (and it has been mentioned in this thread), is that they will have no say in where teams go. It will be all about the money and who can provide the most to a conference.

I'd like to see ISU get a top-notch bball team and that will propel some media minds into thinking ISU DOES matter. But at the end of the day, the media won't matter. Money will. I hope ISU joins the B10 if the conference goes to 16.

*Disclaimer: I am HOPING that the conferences stay together and this B12 can add a few more teams and stay together. Wishful thinking, yes, but that's what I want.

Totally agree. I just wish that all the university presidents would just come out and say as you did, "It will be all about the money and who can provide the most to a conference." Either a school provides (1) through a major media market or a school provides (2) because they were good in the 80's and/or 90's and people still want to watch them today.

But university presidents, let's just be honest with each other and say that we're not looking out for the best interest of students, we're looking to see how much money we can make. Stop lying to each other and stop lying to the public. Do what you're going to do and man up and say we're money hungry.

The Big 10 would have a hard time finding reasons for declining an application for membership from ISU since they have Nebraska for a couple of reasons. 1). ISU is an AAU member like the entire Big 10 except Nebraska and 2). ISU has a cooperative program with Nebraska so the Big 10 could not say ISU academics do not meet their requirements.

Also, in terms of tv markets, one cannot logically say ISU has no tv market and Iowa does. The two are only 2 hrs apart with Des Moines being the largest city in Iowa. For the Big 10 to use this as a reason for not taking ISU is BS.

I personally hope the Big 12 survives. There is so much tradition and history with this conference that it would be a shame to let it die.
